When talking to counselors about which classes you need to take for your course of study to get your degree, they are intentionally evasive and misleading. When asked they say "you can take any classes you want." When you ask them EXACTLY which classes you need to take and can they assist you in assembling an exact schedule of classes required, they will give you a single sheet of paper with very broad requirements necessary for your degree, but will not give you any further assistance.
It becomes readily apparent when speaking to a counselor that their intent is for you to take more classes than are actually required for your course of study so that you will spend more time in school and will subsequently spend more money, obviously, money that the college gets. I became aware that this was factual after speaking to several other students my first year in school and they all claimed to have had the exact same experience, but until that moment they thought it was just their experience.
