In 1998, I was homeless, living out of a backpack. I was so desperate to do something with my life I tried to join the Army.
The Army told me I had to many fines and my credit was to poor. So I went to the local unemployment office in Lewis County. I could not find anything at all that I qualified for there, so I left. When I walked outside there was this nicely dressed man holding a clipboard, who asked me if I wanted to go to school to learn computers.
I jumped on the chance to go. I was in Lacey the next morning to go on the "tour". By the end of the day I was signed up for this program that was going to change my life. I did not mind signing up for the loans as I was told companies like Microsoft, IBM, and Nintendo recruited from the pool of students at BCTI.
After two or three days i realized the curriculum was not what promised. I went to speak with financial aid to find out if I quit if they could send the unused portion of my loans back. The answer was "No it cannot be returned. You need to just keep comming and graduate as you have already aquired this debt."
They did help me find a job. I went to work as a file clerk. The only skills that i needed there, I learned in high school. Alphabatizing. This job was minimm wage in 1998. How do I pay off two student loans at $3500.00 a peice on minimum wage.
I am now attending community college, but have to quit after this quarter due to lack of funds. You see, i do not qualify for federal monies to help as I have these BCTI student loans in default.
I started BCTI so my children would look up to me. Now they get to watch me quit school. Thanks BCTI!!! Thanks alot!!!
