I received a phone call on 11/17/05 from someone with a very thick accent identifying themselves as a member of a government ageny. They said that i had qualified for a grant of $5,000 and that i would never have to pay this money back. They said that the money would be deposited into my bank account the next day. The person on the phone asked my for my bank account number and routing number and said that $49.95 would be taken out of my bank account only after the money had been deposited. I refused to give out my bank account # over the phone for quite a while. The person on the other end kept assuring me that he was with the US government and gave me his name and ID #. I finally stupidly gave in. Needless to say I was charged $49.95 and never received any money.
The name Advantage America was never mentioned in the phone conversation and i only found out that this was not a government ageny when a withdrawal of $49.95 was posted to my bank account on 11/21.
