I too was a victim of John Beck and Mentoring of America LLC.
My husband purchased the "Free and Clear" real estate program and when we received it, a letter came with it informing us that we had received a complimentary coaching session... Ha. Yeah right.
We placed the call for this "session" and in reality they asked us a load of questions as to why we were interested in this program. They told us if we invested 5-10 hours a week we would make our money back in 60 days... I'm rolling on the floor laughing. They asked what bills we had and what credit cards we had. Amazingly, our package was only $9,955.00. This was actually less than the limit of the card, but we had a few other things on it at the time.
I called to cancel the next day and they told me that they could not officially cancel me until "Mr. Andrus" had given them the okay after he talks to me. I talked with "Brian Andrus" who signed us up for the program and explained that this was too much money for us and that I have an anxiety disorder and that we decided that we shouldn't do it. He then told me that he would give me a $3000 refund after one month and I was to call back then. He also assured me that if we had any problems or I had any serious anxiety problems that he would help me do a charge back.
After one month I called back, and called, and called. Finally Brian told me that he would have his friend Jared Stahera call me back and do the refund. I tried to contact Jared for 1 1/2 weeks after he didn't call me. When I finally got a hold of him, he only gave me a $1000 refund because I had a potential deal. This potential deal was just a letter that I was sending someone whos house was on a notice of default list. There was no potential deal.
After this happened, My anxiety attacks increase to daily if not a few times a day. I decided it was time to call Brian and do a charge back. DId he return any of my phone calls? OF COURSE NOT!!!
I decided to take action into my own hands and I contacted my credit card company. I did a charge back on my card and of course mentoring of america challenged it. We sent letters back and forth to my credit card company for a few weeks and finally my credit card company settled on my side.
I was so happy, my anxiety decreased immediately. We thought we were in the free and clear... Wrong. About 2 weeks later we received a bill from EPN on behalf of John Beck. I wrote a dispute letter to EPN and was told I would be contacted about it. Again, no one contacted me. I called EPN to see what was happening and they said that I would have to offer a settlement. The person I spoke with sounded very partial to john becks company. I flat out told her that and we got into an arguement. Long Story short we offered a settlement of $1800 the cost of 6 coaching sessions, john beck declined. They wanted $9120 because they gave us our $1000 refund but tacked on a finance charge.
My Anxiety attacks increased ten fold again. I told my husband that this was enough and we contacted a family friend who was an attorney. I sent him all my information and info from this site as well as infomercialscams.com. He consulted with someone in his office who deals with these kinds of things and They agreed with me that they felt that EPN was a part of John Beck.
My attorney typed up a cease and dissist letter that we signed and sent certified mail as well as faxed it. They are not to contact us at all. This was back in March, we have not heard from them at all and we have checked our credit reports twice since April and they are still good... Not one bad glitch. I am keeping my fingers crossed and Praying that it stays that way. I feel like if I let my guard down like I did after my credit card company settled on my side, the other shoe will drop.
To this day though, because we ordered that intial start up package for $50, we still get calls seeing if we want to sign up for different John beck programs. I argued with them one time, now I just tell them that we have done research and aren't interested. Next time they call though, I am going to aske them to remove me from their call list.
WE BEAT JOHN BECK and so can you. My attorney actually told me that I should have never contacted EPN in the first place that I should have automatically sent out a cease and desist letter to them.
