Tells you that credit report is free and then charges 6.95 for each service selected! Ripoff

As has been stated, when you order NetDetective for a flat fee, you have been led to believe that you can do all types of background checks and credit checks with this membership. Only after you have submitted your order with your credit card information do you learn that you must pay a monthly fee of #29.95 to obtain any information other than the person's name, address, phone number and date of birth (which you probably have already).

I am the owner of a duplex and I probably don't need to screen more than 10 to 20 people a year, so this will not be practical for me. I did not subscribe to any of the additional 'services', the validity of which I now question.

They also show an offer for a 'free' credit report. I clicked on the button and read the information. On one side of the ad it says 'FREE Credit reports, FREE Credit Scores, FREE Credentials, Remove negatives, debt relief', and so on. But to the left of the frame in small print it says 'only $6.95 per item selected.'

And it asks for your SSN and your date of birth in order for you to sign up. Remember - they already have your credit card information and by signing up you are authorizing them to bill your credit card - and you don't really know HOW much the charges are going to be until later!

This is way too much information to give to a company that isn't even listed in the Yellow Pages!

I did not complete the sign-up process, and now I'm getting e-mails from them reminding me that I did not sign up for my 'free' credit report!

I am assuming that I cannot respond to the e-mail. If I had signed up for recurring charges on a credit card, my only recourse would have been to call the credit card company and block ALL charges, essentially closing the account.

Something needs to be done about this company. I wish that one of the major network news magazines would do a piece on Net Detective and stop all this foolishness!
