Unlike the other 2 reports from faculty, I am currently teaching a full load at IADT Pgh in the justice technology program.
I will confirm that often I have been denied vital course materials that I have needed to present my core class materials. When I was first hired my department chair had no formal police, security, forensics, or any type of criminal justice background whatsoever.
The new director has very limited experience and extremely poor work ethic and guidance to existing instructors. I too have had to deal with piss poor management, lack of materials, having to teach in rooms not suitable to class, having rooms changed without notice, and having to use outdated and unreasonable material due to the schools commitment to using a specific publisher. I have taught in 3 other technical school programs and can say with 100% certainty that this is the worst program that I've ever seen.
My students are mostly bottom dwellers, lacking basic math, english, and grammar skills. I assigned a simple research paper to my students in my first term and was appalled by the reponses that I got. And that was only 25% of my class because that's all that completed the assignment.
Mysteriously 4 students that I gave failing grades to ended up on honor roll by some wierd twist of fate. The management seems to care only about finances, my concerns over educational matters were never taken seriously or even considered. The school has gone so far as to create a "retention committee" geared at keeping failing students enrolled to keep the checks coming in. I was even disciplined for having "too harsh of an attendence policy" for requiring my students to attend laboratory classes where experiments could not be made up. I had students that literally only came to 2-3 out of 15 classes and still were passed on by the education director.
If you are a prospective student, or the parent of one, look elsewhere or you're at risk of losing alot of money, time, and effort on a useless diploma that will get you nowhere. Trust me, I do hiring and civil service for many local departments. An IADT Diploma isn't worth the paper that it is printed on.
