I got a call last week at 8:45pm from this place telling I qualify for a government grant. I was asked if I paid my taxes on time last year and that I qualified for a government grant of $11,000 and all I need to do was fill out some package that they would send in the mail but I just needed to pay a processing fee. I told her I wasn't going to give my account information over the phone and to send me a package in the mail and I would look over it then I would send in the processing fee. Well she assured me that this was for real and they were approved with the BBB and just all this junk that it was a legit thing. She had a very strong middle eastern type accent that I could barely understand. So she gave me this speech on how the government was giving free money to millions of americans for paying their taxes on time and blah blah blah.
So I told her well send me the package in the mail and then I'll send it in. So she asked me what bank I banked with and I told her and she said that I needed to verify the tracking number from my check book. I told her I didn't have my check book in front of me and I needed to look for it. So she said I'll hold while you get it. I said well why don't you give me the tracking number and then I'll get my check book and give you a call back to verify it. Well she gets her supervisor dude and I tell him the same thing and he says well we'll give a call back tomorrow and hung up. Well the next day the same girl called her name is Cristina and she started explaining the whole thing to me again and I said you guys called me last night at 8:45pm about this. So it was like 11:45pm your time. I said you guys are supposed to call during the day not late at night. Then I told her I wasn't interested and I wasn't gonna give my info out and they were probably a scam.
Well today I get the same call from a guy named Michael Anthony was supposedly his name and he told me the same run around story. I got into a little argument with him about how the government is not that nice to give money to people just for paying their taxes. He said that it was my right to get back what I've paid. Then I told him to send me a package in the mail and I would go over it and then send it. He said there would be a fee of about 239.00 and I said I ain't stupid I may have gotten scammed once last year but I learned my lesson. Then he said that it wasn't a scam and that I was stereotyping. And I said its the holiday season and thats when everyone is running all their scams because they're too damn lazy to go out and get a job so they have to steal from people. So he keeps on with this is not a scam and all you need to do is talk to the automated machine and give my info and write down the verification # and give my acct info. So I said okay I listened for the number and then I hung up. A couple of seconds later he called back and said you hung up. I told him yeah I don't feel comfortable giving my account info over the phone. So then he tells me well I gave you my name and my employee number you are missing out on some money that is rightfully yours. Then I tell him well how bout I call my government in my state to see if the government is giving free money and if they are then I call you back and give you my info. I also told him people don't pay for things like this right away you pay when you get it. He then asked if I got the verif # and I told him yeah he said no you didn't cuz you hung up and I told him yeah I did get it, it was given to me at the beginning of the recording. He insisted that it didn't and i gave him the number to confirm. He said that if I didn't do it today i was going to miss out on money. And I told him if this was legit then he wouldn't have a problem with me contacting my government regarding this matter. Then he said that it was nice talking to me and he hoped I had a nice day. What an idiot.
Also they call to my cell phone not my home phone and the number that came up was not in service cuz I was at work when he called and I told him that I tried calling the number on my caller id and it was out of service and where he was calling me from. Then he gave me their customer service number and said that something was wrong with my caller Id i told him that my phone was fine. When he called me back the second time on caller id it came up of nothing but zeros. These people are stupid. Don't fall for anything that says you have to pay a fee upfront.
