Oakwood Acceptance - Oakwood Mobile Homes
Sinking floors, caveing ceiling, electric nightmare, hvac issues, substandard construction! Ripoff south carolina

The begining of a seven year nightmare:

Entered an Oakwood Mobile Home sales lot! Looked all the models over and decided on the Sunset doublewide, sale price $42,000. Got thru all the paperwork and agreed on a delivery date. Was told that the home hed to be ordered unless I wanted the display model. Ordered the home.

Arrival date not met! Two weeks later the home arrives. The set-up crew works for two days to get it togeather. I asked the crew-chief why the mateing half studs were so small, (we were told they would be 2x6's). He tells us that it is two 3x3's bolted togeather to reflect a 6x6. Brought in $10,000 worth of new furnature, (Didnt want existing furnishings, sales staff kept it, didnt affect price).

Next 6 months not to bad with respect to service. They responded well to shortcomings and addressed them promptly. (I credit this to the warranty repair crew). Now we have been in the home 2years, 1 wife and 2 St. Bernards, no kids. The ceiling is falling in at one end of the house, there are three "sinkholes", one in the hallway, one in the living room and one in the master bathroom under the toilet (causing it to lean drastically to the right), there is no electricity at all to the master bathroom, lights, receps nothing. Switches and breakers are ok. West end windows have surrendered to stress (broke out on thier own, Kitchen floor bowes in three places causing flooring to pull away from sides.

What can we do??? Now that the warranty has lapsed, and us with 23 years left on the note, how does this get addressed. Contacted the local sales lot as these things started to surface. Never spoke to the same person twice. The ownership changed hands several times. No-one ever comes out! *Interesting note* The service manager whom worked on my home on warranty issues early-on quits Oakwood and goes to another organization. He ends up at my house one day interested in buying a truck of mine. We have a few beers while he gives me the inside story of Oakwood. "QUOTE" (They are only interested in the sale, not in repair) This guy is telling me that comparatively, my house is not to bad, there are far worse around here.

What recourse do we have? I cannot afford to replace a floor or rewire a room. Arent there any standards in these areas? Who enforces them? If you dont allready know, dont even bother to try and sue Oakwood, when you signed that mountain of paperwork and contracts there was a clause that stated that they have the right to put the case into arbitration. I wonder who the arbitrator works for!!!

Anyone with any information on how we can get these things fixed please e-mail me!!!
