Iam still trying to determine who are the thieves - the burglar who may never consider your home as a target - or Vector Security, the company that is inviting themselves as thieves into your checkbook and prompting the need for more antacids. These people are insane, incompetent and have convinced me that I wil NEVER have a monitored security system again - by ANY company.
I cancelled my computer and VOIP in May because I moved to another part of Florida because of a job. Which would make my monitoring inoperable because there was no phone service. I still own the home but am not living there. Why pay all of that money if no one is in the house - but I still kept paying via automatic draft $42.35 a month for monitoring until the alarm system was paid off as of January. About two months after I cancelled phone service Vector called me and said they don't have a connection (duh) and I told them I got rid of the phone and am just using it as a local alarm. I would just keep up the payment until it was paid off Jan. 8. Then I am thinking, if someone cut the phone line and came in and murdered us, it would take a few months for somebody to figure it out because they were clueless.
Jan. 9, I call the and tell them I was cancelling the monitoring service because the alarm system is paid off and I do not want or need it. The answer: okay, someone will call you within 48 hours. They did not, claim they did, and next thing I know they do the automatic draft on 25 January. I call them up, tell them I want the January draft refunded and I do not want monitoring any longer. I asked will I be charged again, and they said I would not. Just to be on the safe side, I cancelled payment with my bank for $29 - good thing too. Now these nuts are sending me monthly bills and I owe them a bunch of money for monitoring - and here is the quiz question: how is it that I was paying off the system and paying $42.35 a month - now it is paid off and I'm still paying $42.35, not just for monitoring? Here is how the bill reads - Monitoring dealer res = $26.45, Two way voice dealer (which really creeped me out) = $5.30, VIP plan dealer (I have no clue what in the world that would be) = $10.60! Ironically, when I was still a firefighter and we use the Tens Code, 10-60 meant CANCEL.
And we all know where this is going - they will send their rip-off "past due" bills to a credit bureau, who will lower your credit score - so every other corporate greedy %$*@ can charge you higher interest, deny you credit because they will claim you are a credit risk! And they will all keep rolling in the bucks while we are paying grocery money to thieves like Vector or - my personal favorite - GE Money. But they are another story. What a scam Vector and credit bureaus are.
When friends ask me about getting a security system, I tell them NEVER get anything with monitoring. Use a local alarm, you can install cameras, there is so much you can to do to thwart thieves without inviting them into you home and your checkbook - and for less money.
