I moved into Quail Meadows Mobile Home Park in shortly after I moved in, Jeff Renner, Regional Manager contacted us claiming that we were liable for 2 months back space rent from the the previous tenant.
I contacted an attorney from a paid legal service, who sent them a very nasty letter, and soon those charges were dropped.
MHC also owns De Anza Mobile Home park in Santa Cruz, CA. MHC filed numerous Slapp suits against the county of Santa Cruz to get them to drop their rent control. At that point they started to raise their space rent 400%.
After the numerous slapp suits, Santa Cruz County, finally through in the towel, and dropped their rent control that had been in place for over 30 years.
After their victory with Santa Cruz county their cajones got so big they decided to raise our space, though only 14%. 14% is quit a lot for a disabled person who is on a fixed income and far below poverty level. My SSI only went up $12, but my space rent increased by $58. For some that may not seem like much, but for a disabled person on a fixed income this is highway robbery, will force me to take these funds from my food budget.
I suppose I can starve one week out of the month to keep a roof over my head.
When I moved in I was told that the rent would never go up over 8% per year, I had also been told the same thing from a rep at MHC's Arizona's office.
Three years ago I asked MHC for disabled parking in front of my space. They adamently denied it, and when I filed a complaint with HUD they did not help at all.
I truly hope something can be done about MHC to put them back in their place. They are getting away with too much.
