I bought a Maytag washing machine 5 years ago. I came with a 1 yr guarantee. At almost a year a water intake sensor burned out because there was no intake filter and small particles from the water supply clogged the very tiny openings in the sensor. I had to add a whole house water filter to prevent this from recurring. Recently (at 5 years old) the washer stopped spinning. I find out from the repair man that the problem is a slipping belt in the motor. This problem would have been easy to fix in the past - you replace the belt. But today's Maytag washers have motors that can't be repaired, not even a slipping belt. The motor would have to be replaced at almost the cost of a new washing machine.instead of buying a new Maytag I found an LG for about the same price. It has intake filters and an outflow filter that the Maytag did not and it has the usual 1 yr guarantee - except for the motor which has a 10 year guarantee! If the Maytag repairman today is lonely it is because they are making machines that must be thrown away, instead of repaired!
