We received a cold call from Tri-State Air wanting to set up an appointment to give us an estimate for duct cleaning. I guy by the name of John Belaga showed up and tried to sell us on a duct cleaning that ended up sounding like an excellent deal, but seemed to be very anxious and in a hurry and rushed through the presentation.
I wasn't feeling all that comfortable, but when he knocked the price down a lot more, I asked my wife what she thought, and she said go for it. He requested a $50 deposit, so I asked him if he accepted credit cards, and he said no cash & check only. As I was writing the check he said they have problems with people stopping payment with credit cards, which should have been an immediate red flag while I was writing the check.
He handed me a business card that looked legit on the surface, but upon a closer look after he had left, the business card did not have an address listed at all, and w/o really realizing while he was writing up the contract, he crossed off all the contact info on the proposal, and took the business card he gave me, and crossed off that contact info.
