Last Christmas I purchase a coffee and 2 end tables for my daughter at Marlo in Alexandria.
When she received the tables she had to ask someone to help her assemble them. Once assembled the tables were uneven, glass wouldn't fit, wood didn't match ~ they looked horrible.
She started immedately the process of returning them. Due to my daughter's work hours this was quite a process because Marlo's schedules their return hours in a very small window of the day. After many attempts then finally my daughter taking off work she was able to return them.
She received a credit slip and we thought all was right with the world.
Since I paid for the tables on my credit card I started receiving bills stating I had a balance due Marlo for the tables. I called and was told everything was fine and my account would be noted as soon as I faxed a copy of the credit slip. Done.
The following month another bill with a higher balance due to interest fees. I called, faxed again and was told it would be taken care of.
Three months later there is a knock at my door and it was a Marlo tech to check the tables I wasn't happy with. I told him I just purchased the tables for my daughter in Alexandria and they've been returned. He had no information of that.
I have received invoice after invoice for months. Calling and talking to a human is nearly impossible. Then when you finally get a human after 3 hours of listening to selections and being put on hold, they obviously tell you anything you want to hear just to get you off the phone.
In my mailbox 8 months later was an invoice from a collection agency, I've had perfect credit for almost 20 years.inside the envelope held another invoice, with threats to my credit and the amount had grown another $75. I now owed Marlo almost as much as the @#$%#@ tables I originally purchased and returned the piece's of crap.
I went through the same misery with the collection company as I did with Household Bank that handles all of Marlo's accounts. I was told it was fine and taken care of and receive another bill the next month.
I have threatened, screamed, faxed, and did everything, everything I knew to resolve THEIR mistake.
My husband and I just refinanced our home. Imagine our surprise at the settlement table when the attorney would not continue with the settlement until I wrote him a check for the amount I OWED Marlos/Household Bank. I told him I would jump out his window first. He whipped out OUR credit report and too my surprise these morons had turned THEIR immaginary bill into the credit bureau.
I made one last attempt to clear this matter up after our settlement went forward anyway. I'm sure the attorney believed I would jump...
I got a woman's name and she promised me I would receive a letter where this imaginary bill will be satisfied and removed from our credit record.
That was in October. It's January and I continue to get threatening letters from this collection agency.
I know I have not written detail upon detail. Believe me this whole experience has been beyond any nightmare you can imagine. I can't tell you the countless hours me and my daughter have wasted trying to do the right thing to clear this up. It was so frustrating (which I think they design it to be so you'll just give up) and I haven't experienced anger like this ever in my life.
I have told everyone I come into contact with NOT TO BUY A PENCIL FROM MARLO!!! They have no problem taking your money but try to get it back and it's a process from hell.
I'm throwing my bills in the trash. It's like trying to teach a dog how to drive.
I think all of us should take a few hours one Saturday with posters and horns and stand in front of ANY of their stores and drive customers away. Then maybe someone at Marlo might listen us for once.
