We bought a First Texas Home in Allen in 2003. We should have known better. Three years earlier we had walked out of their office and gone across the street to Woodhaven Homes. This was after a frustrating negotiation full of broken promises and outright lies from FTH. We bought the Woodhaven home and were very happy with it.
Later we needed a bigger home and bought one from FTH.
It's ok to buy from FTH as long as you have:
3 attorneys
6 people to help you write down all of the items to be fixed on your walkthrough.
3 professional contractors to find the hidden mistakes.
An arrangement with a wholesale plumber to replace all of the substandard fixtures.
6 tubes of caulking to finish their work
30 days between the final walkthrough and the closing to have adequate time for all of the repairs.
10 space heaters for when it gets cold.
1 brother who is an air conditioning contractor.
5 quarts of paint to redo the outside trim three years from now.
1 good tape recorder to compare the salespersons' promises from one day to the next.
Good luck.
