Construction, medcamp contruction ripoff! Incomplete work, work not done right, no walk thru, tries to charge for items after negiating purchase price!

This person never went with us while performing a walk through to follow up on incomplete work, problems with work, changes needing to be made, items not on house that should be and much more and does not pay his sub-contractors, does not pay his suppliers and other companies.

This person does not pay his sub-contractors which makes them angry and at times come in to a home while under contruction and cause damages which is hard to prove but find out this contractor does not pay sub-contractors that have their own business and would sub out to him for houses he needed building.

He never would go through the house for a walk through with us, always saying he was busy this day or that and finally told us to do it and write down what needed to be done. Finally the day to close came and we trusted him to fix these items and took him at his word!!! Wrong move!!! Don't ever do a closing without doing one or two things. Either change closing date until items and work are completed to your satisfaction on the house (which is best way) or have lawyer to followup on contractor putting it in writing these items/work will be done and a fair time frame, usually 10 to 15 days, but no longer than a month.

Having something in writing doesn't guarantee service will be done and contractor knows it cost to take then to court and you end up getting ripped off. Don't pay or close on house and they have to complete work. They cannot back out because of this so you cannot be threatened in losing your home if don't close. Your lawyer can confirm that.

However, there are other factors to this person. When we found things incomplete or wrong and so forth, a good many of the companies and/or contractors would not come back out to fix them because he owed them money still making it hard to have this done. Unless they took him to court and get their money, it meant we had to either wait, do the work ourselves or hire someone to do what it was we needed done which was more money.

This person has ruined his credibility in monroe, north carolilna just outside of a larger city, charlotte, north carolina and other areas adjacent to this total area as a whole. So therefore he has now moved on to other states although he and family still live locally.

He is now doing business with another builder down in south carolina and has been told to us myrtle beach, south carolina and may go by the name of that person's business, that person's name or medcamp construction. Medcamp was the merge of two names on being a silent backer which was campbell so therefore he has it listed as "medcamp construction" if that partner has not already disolved his partnership with ron medlin.

It took us a little of a year to get 2 window screens for our windows by our fireplace and that took something else happening he was afraid of that some others in the neighbrohood were involved in that would otherwise have costed him a great deal more than coming through with all the needs of others as well as my husband. Then he still did not finish the other details no matter how much we called and threatened a lawyer.

He will deal with you on a price you've agreed on, even in writing, which is to your own benefit, only to try and re-negotiate certain things within the house. Like with us there were a great many canister lights, lights mounted in the ceiling, that he wanted us to pay for and we told him no way. However, even though we won there we found within the first 3 to 4 years he had cut back on our paint, didn't have painter prime the windows therefore we hand to paint the house before it's time.

The only way we won there was by going to the paint company, which btw was sherwin williams, they gave us 5 gallons free because we took a chip of wood from our window where the paint was blistered and caused some light rotting to occur to the window and we were told that this 10 year paint was the best they carried and that they either didn't prime the wood or the primer was watered down becasue they couldn't really tell that the wood was showig primed.

However they still gave us 5 gallons free making good on their product which i have to comend them for great business practices. Then the windows he had up in were having air coming in all around them leaving us with high power bills so we just had them changed out, all 27 windows, vinyl with low "e" and our power bill that was always at $170 dollars went down to under $50 dollars and that is both seasons coldest/hottest!

This person had great sub-contractors he really did. Our house is pretty solid all in all, with exception to previous windows, but that was the window that ron bought that were not the previous quality we had going in.

His wife cookie is in realestate business and did this mainly to sell homes for medlin/medcamp construction or so she said, to keep other realestate people out if possible, so ones getting to know the wives names could help you in this. I am not sure what other aka's he goes under, but i would say buyer beware. The best way to avoid this vulture and all those like him is to not close making another closing date, hold back a certain amount of money and mean several thousands to insure work is done, if not that money can go to some other sub contractors or to the sub-contractor's he used but didn't pay that may do the work and is already familiar with the house. If you have made fair attempts, in wirting, even having them sign for the documents (which is best) and builder/contractor does not answer within a reasonable written amount of time, consider that has fair and take the money and have work done at a fair price keeping all receipts. No judge will go against you what so ever as you put forth fair and written effort to deal with this person fairly and professionally!

We started finding out about him more and more of his rip-off tactics. The more people we spoke to in general or to do things to our home we come to know did the original work, the more we found out about him still owning them money! Lots and lots of money too!!!

So buyers beware in all factors... I hope no one gets him as a contractor/builder. I would hate for you to go through what we did for sure. We have a nice brick ranch at 2000 sq. Ft. Sitting on over a half acre of land in a small all brick community, but i we have certainly learned our lessons as first time home buyers and we even studied up on things, we just did not study the rip-off manual. This was totally unexpected. Also we did not check his references either as this was all his community except for about 4 other homes that were being built by other contractor's and just really getting started out on his own, so i am not sure he would have even had anything showing against him then.

Just remember, do your homework, especially when spending this kind of money!!! Save yourselves a lot of headaches!!!
