Bought a Frigadaire 5 ton AC/100.000 BTU central air/heat unit in Mar 09'. Unit installed on 31 march! PROBLEMS—AC OK but heater makes loud noise on start-up! Installer replaced blower motor thru nordyne but problem still there! Told me to insulate the closet where unit was. Did this but NO help—This problem STILL persists in this unit and the installer and nordyne ignore IT! I was told I would have to put up with it! This problem has been present since day one with NO resolution! NOW a few months into summer 2 the AC freezes up—called installer and he says nothing is wrong—Ice was melted by the time he arrived—Think he didn't believe me! Charged $135 to tell me nothing was wrong! Now less than a month later the AC system quits cooling! Nothing wrong? Apparently the COILS popped a leak and all the freon (421) leaked out—BAD COILS—unit is ONLY 17 months old—HOW could the coils be BAD so soon! Apparently this is a widespread problem with coils (told this by installer/contractor) Nordyne but ALL they will do is give you another of the suspect coils. YOU have to pay for everything else—Labor, Freon, etc, which in my case amounted to $500 to the AC man to replace the coil. NORDYNE should have to completely pay for this repair since THEIR equipment must have a design problem. The unit hasn't given a single season of? Worry? Free performance! Don't buy this peice of junk—find out whats on the inside before you buy—make sure its not made by nordyne! ALL THEIR EQUIPMENT IS SUSPECT AND THERE IS NO WARANTEE—Just get another suspect piece to replace the certain bad one! GO with someone other than NORDYNE!!!
