We are a small church in Texas.in 2006 we signed on with Direct Energy for 5 year contract.in 2009 we contacted Direct Energy to terminate the contract because their rates were very high and other companies were much cheaper. Direct Energy replied and stated a fee of approximately $3,200.00 would be charged to terminate. We terminated, sent the check, and signed with another provider. Two months later Direct Energy sent us a bill for $15,642.00 for termination fees and damages because of the cost of buying electricity they now cannot sell to us. We called and sent all correspondence to them showing they told us what the fees would be. They have since sued us and are asking for almost $25,000.00 in fees and damages. We would have stayed with them if we knew their estimated termination fee would be five to seven times higher than quoted. Great company.
