Tropicare was to replace part of my lawn damaged by TruGreen. (That's yet another story. TruGreen hired them.)
They replaced the areas they were told to but did horrible quality work. A supervisor did come out with the crew and made them do the install correctly. At that time he pointed out some areas of new sod that were looking dry. I told him the crew broke a sprinkler pipe, that I had repaired that morning, so the sod didn't get water overnight. He said some sod gets stressed and could take longer to "green" but if there was any problem give them a call.
I waited for three weeks. Doing the watering as directed. Most all of the sod was thick and green as expected, but some areas were still brown and thin. There was a definite seperation between the "good" sod and the brown sod. It could be seen in a zig-zag patern in one area and in "blocks" in another area. The difference was absolutly defined by the shape of the sod. There were areas where you could have a brown thin square of sod surrounded by green thick sod.
I called and told the company that most of the sod was doing great, but some had failed to green up. They said a tech, "Greg" would be out the next day.
Prior to Greg ariving I had another lawn professional asses my new sod. That professional said there are occations when sod gets stressed and can't recover, or is just "old" (too much time has elapsed since it was harvested and layed down.) It was his opinion that was the case with my brown sod. It was definetly not a watering issue.
When Greg showed up, he instantly told me I was watering the sod properly. I told him I was and to look at how most of it was green. He said he had driven by my house a few times in the past week and he could tell the sod was dry because I wasn't watering. I told him the worst area was where the crew had broken a pipe and the sod didn't get watered just the first day. I also told him a supervisor knew about it and told me they would replace any sod that was a problem. Well, Greg just refused to look at the patern of green and brown sod and insisted that I didn't water. I asked how he could figure most of the sod was green but some was brown from lack of water. How could a sprinkler that waters the whole area skip some squares or make a ziz-zag patern. If I wasn't watering why was most of the sod green and thick?
There was no changing his mind. It was apparent that Greg decided before his truck ever came to a stop at my home that he was going to tell me I wasn't watering and the company would do nothing. I was livid, to say the least. Greg showed no common sence, refused to listed to any logic and then insulted me by telling me I ruined my lawn by not watering and I want Tropicare to pay for it. (My water bill trippled after the sod was installed)
It has been over a week and I have had no communications with Tropicare... None. It is apparent that they don't care if the customer is satisfied, and They won't stand by their product.
Do yourself a favor. Don't use Tropicare for any lawn or garden work. They just don't care, and think the customer is stupid and has no common sence. They will try to insist any problem is your fault.
