Where do I start on this nightmare. I will keep it brief as it only angers me more when I recount this whole nightmare. First, stay away from Jeff Gantt who bounces around Dallas, Ft. Worth and Arlington. He seemed really genuine and sincere when we met at his beautiful home in Covered Bridge outside of Ft. Worth that he claimed he had built and we later found he did not.
So we contracted Jeff to build our 400,000 beautiful home on top of the hill of Covered Bridge. Everything was great as far as we knew. We were living in McKinney and couldnt keep as close a watch as we would have liked to. I would call Jeff about the progress and he would tell us how everything was going well. 3 Months into the Deal we took a drive out to find a slab, and framing, trash all over and pretty much desolate construction site. We called to meet with him and this is where it all began breaking down. He constantly avoided calls, would not call back, and opted to text us for communication. He never met with us for a meeting as there was always an excuse.
Our house sat in the state it was for 7 months when we started getting letters for liens. Seems as though Jeff Gantt had not only taken the near $50,000 advance for the beginning of the build, but every draw that had been released with MY forged signature never found its way to the sub contractors either. At the time that we contacted our mortgage company we found that nearly $100,000 had been given out, and none of the interest paid as he was supposed to be paying per the contract during construction.
We contacted 4 others in the neighborhood through the HOA who were in the same situation. Money gone, liens coming in, and construction stopped. It took us 1.5 years of this misery and communicating with the mortgage company to finally short sale what was going to be a magnificent home because we didnt have the cash to pay the contractors as well as finish the home and make payments. So if you ever cross paths with this scum, stay clear. He is a con man who knows nothing about construction, or business. Also beware of his wife who claims to be an interior designer.
