Bruno Bomenka
Incomplete Work, Breach of Contract Hazlet

Bruno Bomenka began a small bathroom job for me in April. I was quoted a price of $2650 for remodeling my bathroom, which included the installation of a new tub, shower tile (including a built in 12x12 box for shampoo, etc), floor tile, toilet, sink and vanity, floor and ceiling moldings, baseboard cover, and painting of the bathroom. I purchased all materials and the cost I was quoted was for labor only. The job was complete in a week.

During this job, Bruno thought he was being funny and was aiming a drill at my dog. My dog's short curly hair got caught in the drill and ripped out. His skin was also torn. He was fine, but we had to take him to the vet, which was an additional cost to us which we did not pass on to Bruno. The vet told us that another 1/4 inch, and the drill would have hit the dog's spine. We did not make a big deal of it, as he seemed apologetic, and we let him complete the work.

Bruno also destroyed the carpet on my stairs with his oily shoes when he was doing the bathroom. He said that he was in the carpet business at one point, and would replace it. This was a carpet runner going up hardwood floor stairs, and had only been installed a month prior. When removing the old tile in the shower, he also caused minor damage to the adjacent wall in my bedroom, causing the studs to come out through the sheetrock and rip through the paint. Bruno also said that he would fix this.

While he was completing the work on the bathroom, I had him quote me a price for a small landing at the bottom of my stairs, small half bathroom in my basement and a small half bathroom in my master bedroom. He looked at the other bathrooms, asked me if I wanted them painted to which I replied that I did, and I was quoted $500 for each bathroom, and $100 for the landing.

Bruno was referred to me by my cousin, whose bathroom he completed without a problem several years prior.

Bruno came to work on the basement bathroom, and the landing but did not complete the work. The landing was finsihed, but trying to get him to come back for the bathroom was a hassle. It took several weeks for him to come back and do more work.in May he came back and completed most of the work, but I still was left with a sink that was leaking into the vanity below, an uncompleted paint job, one piece of molding not in place, and the ceiling not painted or spackled. The ceiling replacement was actually part of the first bathroom job, as the drain for the tub needed to be reached from below through the ceiling. My father made the mistake of paying Bruno in full for his work. I called Bruno and every day for a week, he said that he was coming to complete the bathroom. He failed to show up every day. I had taken off of work for three of these days. I gave up and stopped calling.

Several weeks later, I started calling Bruno again. I had researched having someone else come in and complete the work, but it was going to be of great cost, especially for the leaky faucet. I was determined to have him complete the work. Bruno constantly answered the phone and promised he was coming. This went on for months. Some days, he would call with excuses saying why he wasn't coming (car broke down, had to take his mother to the hospital, was sick, going on vacation, etc). He has no integrity and was working on other jobs during this time, while mine was left incomplete.

On August 17, we spoke to Bruno and told him that we had enough, and he needed to complete the work immediately. He then denied that painting was part of the job, and said that it cost an extra $200. He also denied ever knowing about the damage caused to my wall, and refused to do anything about the carpet, saying that it was old and in poor condition anyway. The carpet was one month old when it was destroyed, and I have a receipt stating so. He also said that the tile landing that he completed was a $400 job and he did it for $100. I told him that he should have quoted me $400 and that nothing I said or did compelled him to quote $100.

During the course of all of this work, we never negotiated with Bruno on prices. He quoted us a price and we obliged - we did not try to get him to reduce prices or costs at any point.

This man is dishonest and cannot be trusted. His prices are very low, but he has no work ethic and doesn't do great work to begin with. He continues to make promises he doesn't keep. Do not trust this man to complete any work for you.
