Apartment rental scam

I responded to an ad for an apartment rental. It looked wonderful (stupid me).

I got what looked like a standard reply email, along with a request to perform a credit check. It directed to me to what I thought was Consumers Direct, which is in fact a reputable credit check agency.

However, the url was actually http://simonrentals.com/creditcheck.php. Whoever created this scam has created fake pseudo-sites for many credit check companies like this.

I entered all my info, and in fact got a genuine credit check, but when I called customer service they explained that they thought this was a scam.

I am beyond afraid and would appreciate any help anyone could give me.
