A young, nice girl with a gift for me showed up at my door. I noticed a shabby red van in front of the house with several people crawling out of it. She wanted to shampoo one room in my house and promised it would be dry in 30 minutes. I told her I didn't have time, but she said that it would only take 30 minutes and that one of the guys was cleaning my neighbor's carpet even as we were speaking. The she just wanted to see my carpet, I made the mistake of letting her in. Then she said she was working on a trip to Florida and was leaving and one of the guys would do the work. The next thing I know immediately behind her I have a young man walking in with a LARGE box. Then the demonstration started. He said to look at it this way, if I didn't want the vacuum, at least I was getting my carpet cleaned. He was working on a trip to England and would get credit for just demonstrating whether I bought the vacuum or not. I was in the middle of cleaning and had everything pulled out so I was not ready for someone to take up all my afternoon time. But the boy was very nice, appeared to be a Christian and although I noticed his shoes were very shabby, I let him "clean" my house. I told him at the beginning I would not buy a vacuum cleaner as I just brought a truck. He thought he could change my mind. I let him continue and he cleaned my bed, living room carpet, couch and chair, fan and vent. After spending 3 hours demonstrating, he called his supervisor. The shabby red van showed up again. A nice looking man came in and tried talking me into the terrific deal he could give me. I went from $1917.77 to $1200 at $79.00 per month to trading my old pick up truck for a brand new Kirby with all the attachments. The gentleman is to call me next week after I pick up my new truck, to see if I still want to trade him my old truck (value $500 trade in) for a brand new Kirby with all it's attachments (valued at at least $1200), but needless to say that is not going to happen. Fortunately I did my homework and looked Kirby up on the internet and found this web site with over 200 reports. Also there are several areas on the internet where you can buy a Kirby Vacuum Cleaner for approximately $700 or less and is compared with several other vacuums at a much lower price.
Moral of the story, do your homework before signing or buying anything. I was lucky, or blessed. I got my house partially cleaned for free, my representative was a nice little guy, and I only wasted three hours of my time. Others have not been so blessed.
