We bought a bottom mount Amana refrigerator (B136) in Dec of 1999. Yes, that's 7 years ago but we've had problems with it even while it was in warranty.
First, the inside lights wouldn't shut off when we closed the door and it got very, very hot. We were lucky to be home or we would have had a refrigerator full of rotten food. The repairman "fixed it" but about 2 years later, the same thing happend. We couldn't risk having this happen while we were away. If food rotted, it could destroy the whole refrigerator with noxious smells. So, we just leave the lights out all the time - very inconvenient.
In July of the temperatures in the refrigerator and freezer went hay wire. The repairman "fixed it" by replacing the electronic control board. - very expensive. Now the temps are haywire again.
Whirlpool bought Amana so I called them. I said that since there are recurring problems of the same issues, there has to be a design flaw or something similar. Having the repairman "fix it" is not getting at the real problems. They could care less since its out of warranty.
