I had contacted Scotts Lawn Service to have my grass worked on after the hot dry summer. A salesperson called me about 2 days after I had sent in the card. They were very quick to call me when they smelled a sale.
I talked to the local "franchiser" and we set up a plan of what was to be done and WHEN.
I was very specific about the "when" due to my budget. I was told there would be a treatment for the grass and a treatment for the bugs in August and then towards the end of September, an "aeration and overseeding" treatment, which would cost 120.00.
The next day, they did the fertilizing while I was at work - and left a bill on the door. I paid it.
The day AFTER THAT, they did the bug treatment, while I was at work - and left the bill on the door. I paid it immediately.
The next day, my neighbor told me a guy in a Scott's Van had pulled up the day before, sat in his van listening to talk radio loudly, and hung a paper on the door. Did he ever even DO ANYTHING?
Two days later-still in August -again while I was at work - they did the seration and overseeding which was scheduled for the end of September and posted a bill on the door for 159 dollars plus tax. A far cry from the 120.00 I was told it would cost, and a full month earlier than the treatment was to be done.
The bill showed a zero previous balance, so it took them no time to cash my first two checks. I waslked around the yard to see what they had done. There were clumps of dead grass everywhere, and the paper on the door told me not to remove them, and to water the grass. So I watered... All of it.
When I got to the other side of the house, I realized they had skipped about
25 % of my yard.
I called them that same day, and told them about the missed areas and the bill discrepancy. They said someone would call me back. I did not leave the house, no one called.
I called the next day, after no one had called me back, and asked them if they could remedy the problem. The lady on the phone assured me that someone would call me that evening. I told her, "Fine, I will be home all night". She even remembered me from calling the day before.
The next day, in the afternoon, I called for the third time. I asked if there was someone I could speak to about this NOW, since no one calls me back.
She said she had told them to call me, they just "must not have".
I also explained for the third time what the problem was. She said there was nothing that could be done.
I told her that I would be paying 75% of my original quoted price for the aeration and overseeding (overseeding? I got down and dug around in the grass for 15 minutes and did not see any signs of grass seed)
I also told her I would not pay for anything further and they should steer clear of my property.
This particular franchise of Scott's in Gahanna cannot be trusted, and the customer service is lousy.
