Protect America
Ripoff and broke Federal Privacy Act Law

My husband and I signed up for the protect America Home Security System. We were told that once we installed the system, we would have 7 days to try out. It turned out it was seven days from delivery.

Once we recieved our system my husband installed it (he installed it as per the instructions). That first night the control panel beeped several time during the night to alert us that sensors had failed.in addition, the system said that the door was open (not the case).

Upon cotacting tech support, we recieved several reasons that could be causing the issues, yet none of the techs could agree on a single reason for the problem. To correct the issues, they suggested that they would send us new, more powerful sensors.

Here is the major problem. The new sensors would not arrive until the end of the 7 day trail period.in addition, the reps would not extend the trail period and could not gurantee that the new sensors would work.

We pleded that they must extend the trial period. They would not. This left us no recorse, except to cancel. They said that it would cost us a $99 restocking fee and about $80 for the first and last months monitoring (which were not informed of, be sure to read every word of the agreement). So, I requested a copy of the online agreement for our contract.

After several failed attempts to obtain this info, I finally got them to fax it to me. Upon reciept of the fax, I discovered, to my great dismay, that they had sent me someone else's account info.

This info included such pertant information as: name, SSN, telephone #, address, security passcode, visa card number, etc.in addition, the wife's info was present as well! And this is a secuirity company!!! Can anyone say violation of the Federal Privacy Act.

That type of info should never be faxed, let alone to the wrong person. Consequently, we cancelled our contract (by sending the equipment with a cancelation letter via certified mail).

We contacted the person whose info we were given; to inform them of the security breach. They too will be cancelling thier contract (if they can). To follow up on this violation of the privacy act we contacted the Federal Trade Commmision and the Better Buisiness Bureau
