My husband and I decided to buy a house for us and our two children. One of them being handicapped. We decided on this paticular house in Cambria, Indiana. 4 bedrooms, ranch style, 2 car garage. We thought we were getting a deal. Little did we know! We had the house inspected, the inspector told us to stay away! He told the representative from Crum that several things were needing to be fixed!
Floors in 3 rooms needed to be replaced due to very week spots in them, guttering was falling off of house, water heater was 20 years old and had rusted through causing major leakage and bathroom faucets weren't working. My husband signed all the necesarry paperwork for the things that our realtor, Bob Taylor, promissed us would be fixed. The first couple off weeks, he had a crew out there, and they were "working" on the house. A couple of days later, I personally went out and checked on progress. The floor had been "patched, " I say patched because all they did was put linolium over the sagging floor! The water heater was still in there, the guttering had been put back up there, and the bathroom still didn't have running water! I called repetedly for several days to no avail!
Moving day arives! No running water, water heater still wasn't fixed, no fixed floors. We had to move, our lease was up, so we went ahead and moved out there! The next two weeks I spent playing phone tag with our realtor. He assured me that it would all be fixed before closing! I ended up buying a brand new water heater! We traveled back and forth daily to shower and bathe our child. The crew came ONE day! The day of closing came. My husband went and signed the papers. As we were leaving I asked Bob when the rest of the work would be done, he told me that the crew was there, as we spoke. He told me he had just spoke with them, and the were almost done! That was the last day I heard anything from him. NOTHING had been done when I got home!
I ended up hiring a plumber to come and install the water heater, fix the bathroom, and tell me what else needed fixed! In the first two weeks of living there I incured a 3000 dollar bill to the plumber who had to completly redo all of the utility closet work, including a new presure tank for the well. Nothing in that house was even up to code!!! Anyway, due to this, we were pouring all of our money into fixing the house that was suppossed to be fixed already. I even had the federal government come look at the house, because the floor problem was due to the flooding in that area. Clinton County was labled a disaster zone due to the flooding problem. As the year went on, we learned from our neighbors that the last 3 owners of that house had the SAME EXACT PROBLEM WITH THE SAME EXACT REALTY COMPANY!
The company kept buying and selling the house without fixing it! Even though they knew what was wrong with it for 5 or so years! Unfortunatly, my husband lost our home due to the financial stress we were put in just to make our home livable. We are still paying on constuction and plumbing bills that we incurred from that disaster of a house! Crum realty needs to pay!!! I have spoken to lawyers about this, but we don't have the money to start a lawsuit! I feel that we are due an enormous amount of restitution for our loss! My husband is now in debt in excess of 100,000 due to this house, not to mention our credit!!! If I can warn just one person, I will!!! Be warned!
