East West Moving
Boxes delivered late after 2 wks, add'l $500 charge, missing items

Moving from San Diego to Albuquerque, we were contacted by East West with a sensible quote, something none of the other moving companies were willing to give us without a lot of data provided up front.

I sent them the $250 deposit 1 week before pick-up. At that time, they notified us that they would deliver our items in 5 to 14 days. We didn't expect this delay.

The movers were late, but they were a good crew, except that we couldn't read the list of items & they didn't give us a box count. More nervousness...

We packed our essentials & drove to Albuquerque to wait.in less than a week, East West called to say our boxes weighed more than expected & I would need to pay $500 additional to receive our goods. I grumbled a bit, but agreed & then he told me to have the balance of the payment in the form of a postal money order or CASH. I was now very worried.

I was called away to attend my grandmother's funeral, leaving my husband alone, sleeping on an air mattress with 2 postal money orders for the $1000 balance $500 for the extra charge. I returned to San Diego to prepare our house for renters. After nearly 2 weeks had passed, we called East West & were told there was a problem with the truck and it had been re-routed to San Jose.

Subsequent phone calls detailed a problem in Phoenix & apologies for the additional 2 days delay & news that we could deduct $100 from the balance due. There followed news that the driver would contact my husband (who had very little knowledge of local roads) for directions to our home. The truck showed up after dark on Feb 1st - we had last seen it on Jan 16th.

We are still sorting through broken glass & torn boxes, we had to reassemble our futon couch because it was put together backwards & we still can't be sure we have everything. One item we know they didn't deliver was our ironing board, because my husband pointed it out and was told it wasn't ours. Further, because my husband has impaired mobility, he couldn't climb up into the truck to assure himself that all of our goods were removed, not that he could have known without the box count to start.

We found East West Moving to be a rip-off, both because of their delays and extra charges after they had our possessions & because their business practices are questionable: not giving an accurate box count, requesting a cash payment & delivering at night, causing some damage to our home in their haste to be finished.
