Lou Abrams came to our home to give an estimate on the refurbishment of a fireplace and to rebuild a chimney. He gave an estimate requiring half the money once work was begun.
He came out and set up a scaffolding alongside the fireplace, and he let it sit there for a month and a half. He was scheduled to begin work and wanted to collect money but we wanted a certain brick - this is what saved us, I think.
Anway, still in the dark, the scaffolding sat there. I called him and when he came out he said he would start work the following day. I asked him for the permit and Certificate of Insurance. He said he didn't need a permit for tearing down the firplace, he only needed it when rebuilding began.
I called the township and was told that he did need the permit before starting work. And also the insurance. I called him and told him he could not start work until he provided these documents. I have not heard back from him. I then called again and asked him to remove the scaffolding. No response. I called our police department and the sergeant at the desk advised me to call and tell him not to come onto my property without an appointment, or it would be trespassing. I did that. No response. I wrote letter to Lou Abrams and posted a notice on the scaffolding dismissing him for 1. Unreasonable amount of time passed before starting work, 2. Not securing the proper permits or showing me his insurance.
He seems to have disappeared and left a huge mess behind.
Fortunately, we have not given him any money. But we have lost a lot of time and there is a huge mess and a scaffolding that is in place approaching two months. This is a horrible situation. I am trying to start over and figure out how to remove the scaffolding.
