Emco Doors
Forever, Anderson, Poor quality door, no warranty to new homeowner Ripoff

I purchased a home last year that had a fairly new Emco (Forever/Anderson) storm door. I think the owner said it cost around 250.00, and it was less than 2 years old. Soon after purchasing the home, the door suddenly starting falling apart and separating at the seams. I am the only owner, so it is not a matter of abuse from kids, etc. The door has "a lifetime warranty". I called Emco with the serial number. Their computer came up with the previous owner's name. Being an honest person, I gave them my name, and told them I recently purchased the home. They said "Then you don't have a warranty, it is non-transferrable". I explained that the door was less than 2 years old, and having a "lifetime warranty", certainly implied that it should not start falling apart that quickly, it looked like faulty manufacturing. They stuck to their guns and basically said too bad.

I used liquid nails to repair the door (Glued it properly, unlike the factory which put light or non-existent sealant from what I saw). The door had separated from top to bottom, not just a little bit. I had to use (2) 2x4's and several clamps to facilitate the repair. That repair seemed to have corrected the manufacturing deficiency. Upon installing it again, I found the 3 strips that hold in the screens or storm window didn't seem to be locking in very well (Gee they never really did anyhow). I noticed that it seemed to be missing a bottom strip. I called Emco again, who now had me marked as "second owner, no warranty". I told them I needed the bottom strip. They said: "Your door only came with 3 strips, however, for 54.00, you can have a new strip set, that comes with 4 (like it should have). I told them I only needed the bottom one, and once again - Too bad. So you're selling me 4, but my door came with 3 (What's wrong with this picture?).

This company produces shoddy doors from what I have seen, then stiffs the consumer any way they can. I have spent several hours trying to repair, retrofit, alter, or get this working properly in some manner due to Emco's flat refusal to acknowledge the door may be a result of faulty manufacturing. Now emco is sending me instructions on how to clip in the strips, because I must be an idiot and can't figure out how to clip in 3 strips, but can fix the door when it is falling apart!!! Clearly, I will NEVER buy an EMCO door. I may eventually have to simply spend another couple or few hundred bucks to correct what is clearly a poorly manufactured door. There will be two things I'm looking for - An actual lifetime warranty (transferrable), and decent customer service, neither of which Emco seems to have. I'd like to hear from anybody else with similar experiences. I'm fed up with Emco. Seems like the lifspan of one of their doors is about 2 years.
