I contacted Homeboys by phone as I would be moving to Washington and needed a home to place on my property. They had a nice model on sale and I asked if I could hold it for the sale price with a deposit. I was told "yes, we can do it for $1,000".
I then asked if the deposit was refundable and was told "Yes it is". I sent the deposit and got a sale contract showing I was holding the price for 180 days. There was nothing on the contract stating the deposit was not refundable.
I put another $1,000 to hold it another 90 days at that price. I came upon problems with the property and was unable to improve it for placement of a home. I contacted Homeboys to ask to cancel the price hold and refund my deposit and was told it was NON REFUNDABLE! How convenient!
The owner of the company did not want to acknowledge that his employee had told me it was refundable nor did he offer to work with me. He just kept asking me WHY I couldnt buy the home! I pointed out that the contract does not state anywhere on it that the deposit is NON refundable, nor does it state it is Refundable. He wants me to send him something in writing to prove that I was told it was refundable. I now have no recourse other than small claims court to get my $2000 back that they charged just for "holding a sale price" for me.
Apparently the customer is not right! I know what I was told, but I am a liar in their eyes. I have heard second hand stories of other deceptive practices from this business, which is a secondary reason for no longer wanting to do business with them.
At the time I signed up for this I asked if they had free delivery and setup to my location and was verbally told "yes", however, I saw paperwork in their office that states they only do free set up and delivery within 50 miles. My location is much further than that! Would they have slapped me with a huge delivery fee at the end after I purchased the home! I believe so! I also heard of persons paying for a cement foundation and getting skids, with no compensation for the error.
BEWARE!!! I have learned my lesson the hard way!
