On June I (purchaser) entered into a building contract with Alpine Custom Buildings (seller), paid a down payment of $8,619 {normal for pole building contracts). The salesperson said building construction would commence shortly after building permit issue.
The building permit was issued in September and I patiently waited for the construction to begin. After a couple of months went by I attempted to contact Alpine. Alpine spokesman stated they were in the process of scheduling the construction and a contractor would be contacting me soon.
A couple more months went by during which I attempted to contact Alpine several times. A couple of times I actually talked to persons at Alpine and got the old "we are really busy and you are next in line for construction start excuse".
I obtained Alpine's owner Matt K Jensen's phone number and called him. He stated he didn't do scheduling and hung up on me. Now I am upset and start emailing Alpine and calling Alpine and even sent a personal rep. To the office. Matt Jensen threatened him and threw him out of the office.
Around January of this year I started to demand construction or return of my down payment. At this time I start writing to the State Attorney General's office, consumer protection groups, various other consumer associations, and as you probably already know, nobody cares and even if they did they couldn't do anything about it.
March 2, the building permit expired and once again I demanded return of my down payment. Today, March 9 I get a letter from a Seattle lawyer's office stating Alpine is in receivership. Meanwhile, my spies tell me that Matt Jensen is living in new house in a very expensive neighborhood, driving a high end SUV and generally living the good life.
Now you probably wonder how an intelligent person like me could get involved with such a shady character. I can tell you that there are a bunch of us guys that bought Mr. Jensen's house and car. Check out Washington State's Labor and Industries site for the complaints against Alpine.
Alpine is probably gone (web site still active though) but Jensen is still around. I warn you now, be very careful if you ever do business with him.
