These people are total scammers. They quote you one price, then tell you that they had to "use more material than expected" and charge you double what they quoted. In addition, their work is horrible! And their "warranty" doesn't mean anything! And IF they do come back to make a repair, they will charge you for that. If you don’t pay them, they will intimidate and scare you into paying.
I went outside to close my gate after they finished my “warranty repair” work and that is when they told me there was a charge ($1, 400) for it. I refused to pay them and Mr. Young began screaming at me and the men were attempting to force me to pay them. I am an older woman, was outside without my phone, and I was very, very scared. It was a frightening situation.
They seem to be part of an "extended family" (related or not), that operate under multiple business names. (Young's Paving, Mike Young's Paving, E&J Blacktop, E&J Roadwork, etc.)
Some of the people involved with these businesses are Mike & John Young, Edward (Ed) Smith, Harry Wells, and James McGraw (among others).
Please note that I have not done business with “E&J Blacktop”. However, I did do business with "E&J Roadwork", and written on their invoice was their email address that said "eandjblacktop.com". So they apparently are the same company. And to add insult to injury, someone from E&J Blacktop “attempted” to get the new contract from me in 2021 for doing a total overhaul of my driveway only 3 years after I paid Mr. Young with E&J Roadwork over $15, 000 for the initial job. Thank Goodness, I discovered before it was too late that they were all connected (and possibly all the same group of people)!!
These people go back and forth from the north in the summer, to the south in the winter. They have businesses and complaints in Ohio, Michigan, Illinois, New York, Louisiana, Mississippi and elsewhere.
I had written complaints in 2017 to the Louisiana BBB and other websites, and also found many bad reviews and complaints from others at that time, but I can no longer locate any of them. So, my assumption is that these people are skilled in getting complaints removed and cleaning up their trail.
BEWARE of them! Do your due diligence on them and any business you deal with. Scour the internet… (BBB’s, Secretary of State’s, scamming alert sites, facebook, and other complaint sites) Below are some of the complaints that I can still find on the internet.
