HP Notebook "known" problems - 6105 US

My daughter's notebook died about 4 weeks ago. We took it to our PC Guru who advised that there had been a problem with this model. He printed out the information, gave it to us to get fixed and the NIGHTMARE began. I called and was told that the warranty had expired in January—no matter that they have recognized the problem with this notebook. I asked to speak to someone up the ladder and was told they would call me within 24 hrs. One week later, I called again and after waiting 72 minutes on hold—due to heavy call volume waiting for the supervisors, I was told they would call me back within 24 hrs. I did in fact receive the phone call during the day (I asked to be called after 7pm). I called myself today and after the bickering back and forth the bottom line is... It does not matter if they recognize a problem, it would cost me 250US reduced fee to send it in for repair. However there is no guarantee that it would work when I get it back, but I would then have 90 days for them to fix it for free. Ok is it just me or if you know that there is a problem, it either can or cannot be fixed. Why would I pay 250 to possibly repair the pc when I may also get it back and it still does not work so I can send it back in for them to try again for free as long as they get it back within 90 days of the first repair. OK I am off to search for a new laptop... It will NOT be an HP.
