WeightWatchers: how to cancel, refunds, auto-renewal terms and where to complain (checked October 14, 2026)
WeightWatchers' own pages, opened on October 14, 2026, set out the routes below. They are the company's wording, not our assessment. Older posts about the company in this site's archive (listed in the complaint-record section) concern the 2005-2013 versions of its plans and terms, which differ from today's.
Cancelling. The page 'Manage Your WW Membership' (weightwatchers.com/us/cancellation) says: 'if you'd like to cancel or switch your membership, you can do it here' (a link to the member cancellation flow) and that members 'can always contact us via 24/7 chat'. The WW Membership Agreement ('Last updated: February 9, 2026'), Section 3.B, says a subscription may be cancelled 'before the applicable monthly processing date of your subscription, or in the case of a long-term commitment plan, before the end of the commitment period, by selecting that option in the protected areas of the Site or Mobile App, contacting Customer Service, or by such other means' as the company provides. It adds: 'We will attempt to process all cancellation requests within 72 hours after we receive your request.' Customer Care is 1-800-651-6000; the Agreement also gives a mailing address for notices: WW International, Inc., 18 West 18th Street, New York, NY 10011, Attention: Customer Care.
When a cancellation takes effect. The cancellation page lists three cases: 'For multi-month Commitment Plans, cancellation takes effect at the end of the Commitment Plan period. After the Commitment Plan period, cancellation takes effect at the end of the membership month in which you cancel'; for pre-pay Savings Plans, 'at the end of the initial plan period'; and for standard one-month plans, 'at the end of the membership month in which you cancel'. Section 3.B of the Agreement says that if you cancel near the end of a billing period and are 'inadvertently charged for the next period's fee', you should contact Customer Service to have the charge reversed, and that using the service in that next period means no refund.
Refunds. Section 4.A of the Membership Agreement states that, except as set out in that section, the subscription fee 'is not refundable or cancellable once a billing period (for standard monthly plans) or commitment period (for long term commitment plans) has started'. It lists three exceptions: (1) cancellation 'due to a medical reason, relocation (you move more than 15 miles from a Workshop location) or a Workshop closure' with no other location within 5 miles, in which case the unused portion of the period is refunded (except a fixed upfront fee); (2) the company terminates the membership other than for the member's violation, in which case the unused portion is refunded pro rata; and (3) cancellation 'within 3 days (or such other period as required by law) of your initial purchase', for which the company 'will refund the full amounts required by applicable law'. Section 4.A continues: 'if you terminate your subscription, you must pay the applicable monthly subscription fee until the end of the billing period (for standard monthly plans) or the end of the commitment plan period (for long term commitment plans)'. Section 4.B says purchases made within the Mobile Apps downloaded from the Apple iTunes store 'are not refundable and are subject to' Apple's iTunes Terms of Service. Section 24 of the Agreement reproduces state-specific cancellation notices (for example, three business days in several states and seven business days in Georgia, and in some states a 30-day right to cancel after a substantial change in the services or programs).
Weight Watchers Clinic (GLP-1 prescriptions). Medical services are governed by a separate WW Clinic Membership Agreement (Last updated February 9, 2026). It says that where a service 'require[s] an initial consultation with a Provider', the initial consultation fee 'is not refundable', and that payment 'does not guarantee medication availability' and members 'will not be refunded any fees, even if prescribed medications are unavailable, except as otherwise permitted in this Agreement'. That Agreement allows cancellation through the app or site, by emailing [email protected], through the Care Team or through Customer Service.
Current plan and renewal terms. The U.S. plans page (opened October 14, 2026) advertises 'Starting at $10/month' for Core, with the footnote: 'Pay $10/month for your first 12 months when you purchase a 12-month Weight Watchers Core membership. Plan auto-renews for another 12-month period at the regular price at the end of each plan term unless canceled', Core+ is shown from $20/month with the same renewal wording ('Plan auto-renews for another 12-month period at the regular price at the end of each plan term unless canceled'). Med+ is shown at $25 for the first month, then $74/month on a 12-month plan or $84/month on a 6-month plan, with GLP-1 medication cost not included; its footnote says 'Plans auto-renew for another 12-month or 6-month period at the same monthly rate at the end of each plan term'. The page text as fetched on October 14, 2026 did not show a dollar figure for the renewal price of Core or Core+, only 'the regular price'. The page states the offers end 10/15/26. The renewal and commitment terms appear in footnotes on that page; read them before paying and keep a copy of the checkout screen.
If a charge appears after cancelling. Ask Customer Care to confirm the cancellation date in writing and to reverse the charge (Section 3.B above). The CFPB page 'How do I dispute a charge on my credit card bill?' says to call the card company right away and that, to protect your rights, you 'must also send a written billing error notice to the card company within 60 calendar days after the charge appeared on your statement'. A card dispute does not replace the company's own cancellation steps.
If the dispute is not resolved. Section 19 of the Membership Agreement provides for 30 days of negotiation and then 'binding arbitration in San Francisco, California' under the American Arbitration Association's Commercial Arbitration Rules; Section 20 is a class action waiver; Section 21 says a claim 'must be filed within one (1) year' unless the law prohibits that limit. Notices of a demand for arbitration go to 'WW International, Inc., 18 West 18th Street, New York, NY 10011, Attention: Dispute Notice'. Consumers can also report to the FTC at ReportFraud.ftc.gov and to the BBB (profile in the complaint-record section).
Who operates WeightWatchers: WW International, Inc., its 2025 Chapter 11 case and current management
Entity. WW International, Inc. is a Virginia corporation with its principal executive offices at 18 West 18th Street, 7th Floor, New York, New York 10011; its common stock trades on The Nasdaq Stock Market under the symbol WW (Form 10-Q for the quarter ended June 30, 2026, filed August 5, 2026). SEC EDGAR lists 'Weight Watchers International Inc' as a former name through August 21, 2019. The Membership Agreement defines 'Weight Watchers' as 'WW.com, LLC and its affiliates (together, "WW")' and directs notices to WW International, Inc. The 10-Q uses 'Weight Watchers' and 'WW' for WW International, Inc. and its consolidated operations.
What it sells. The 10-Q describes a 'Behavioral' business (digital subscription products with the option to add unlimited access to Workshops) and a 'Clinical' business ('clinical product offerings provided by Weight Watchers Clinic and third parties combined with ... digital subscription product offerings'). The company's U.S. pages say that 'All medical services provided through our affiliated medical group, Weight Watchers Clinic', and that medications 'require eligibility and a prescription'. The company's plans page describes the program as 'backed by 60 years of proven science' (company statement); BBB's page data gives a business start date of 1963-01-01.
2025 Chapter 11 case. According to the 10-Q (Note 1), on May 6, 2025 WW International, Inc. and subsidiaries WW North America Holdings, LLC, WW Canada Holdco, Inc., WW.com, LLC, W Holdco, Inc., WW Health Solutions, Inc., Weekend Health, Inc. and WW NewCo, Inc. filed voluntary Chapter 11 petitions in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware; the First Amended Joint Prepackaged Plan of Reorganization was filed May 30, 2025 (Docket No. 143), and 'on June 24, 2025 (the "Emergence Date"), the Debtors emerged from the Chapter 11 Cases in accordance with the Plan'. The company's filings describe the post-emergence company as the 'Successor'. The same filing reports a new five-year term loan facility entered on June 24, 2025. At least one consumer suit filed in April 2025 (Berger and Todd) was stayed because of the bankruptcy (see the litigation section).
Management. The 10-Q says that Tara Comonte resigned as President and Chief Executive Officer in March 2026 and that the board appointed Felicia DellaFortuna (Chief Financial Officer) and Jonathan Volkmann (Chief Operations Officer) as an Interim Office of the Chief Executive effective April 3, 2026. A Form 8-K filed September 9, 2026 announced the appointment of Stephen J. Bye as President and Chief Executive Officer. A Form 8-K/A filed September 21, 2026 states that on September 18, 2026 the company and Mr. Bye 'mutually agreed that the Commencement Date will be October 1, 2026' and that the Interim Office of the Chief Executive 'will dissolve, effective as of the Commencement Date', with Ms. DellaFortuna and Mr. Volkmann continuing as Chief Financial Officer and Chief Operations Officer. A Form 3 filed October 1, 2026 lists Mr. Bye as a director and 'President and CEO' with a date of event of 10/01/2026.
Related entities. Kurbo, Inc. (the child and teen health app 'Kurbo by WW') was named with WW International in the 2022 FTC matter described below, where the FTC calls it 'a subsidiary'. Weekend Health, Inc. is listed among the Debtors in the 10-Q; a federal docket records its June 20, 2025 conversion into Weekend Health, LLC with WW International, Inc. as sole member. The Giorgio complaint described in the litigation section names Weekend Health of Texas, PA, Weekend Health of New Jersey P.C. and Weekend Health of Pennsylvania, P.C. as defendants.
FTC and Department of Justice order concerning the Kurbo app (March 2022)
On February 16, 2022 the United States, acting on notification from the Federal Trade Commission, filed a complaint and a joint motion for entry of a stipulated order against WW International, Inc. and Kurbo, Inc. in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California (No. 3:22-cv-00946). The FTC's press release of March 4, 2022 says the complaint alleged that the companies 'marketed a weight loss app for use by children as young as eight and then collected their personal information without parental permission', and that the order 'requires WW International and Kurbo to delete personal information illegally collected from children under 13, destroy any algorithms derived from the data, and pay a $1.5 million penalty'. The court entered the order on March 3, 2022 and closed the case.
What the order says. The Stipulated Order for Permanent Injunction, Civil Penalty Judgment, and Other Relief enters judgment of $1.5 million ($1,500,000) 'in favor of Plaintiff against Defendants, jointly and severally, as a civil penalty'. Paragraph 3 states: 'Defendants neither admit nor deny any of the allegations in the Complaint, except as specifically stated in this Order.' The allegations concerned the Kurbo by WW service and the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act; the order does not concern the WeightWatchers adult subscription, cancellation or refund terms.
Scope of this check. No other FTC action and no state attorney general action against WW International concerning subscriptions, cancellation or privacy was identified in the sources checked on October 14, 2026 (the FTC case page and press release above, SEC Form 10-Q Note 9, whose legal note describes legal actions only in general terms, and a web search for attorney general settlements). This describes the limits of that search, not a finding that none exists.

Court cases involving WW International, Inc. (dockets checked October 14, 2026)
Five consumer-facing matters and the 2022 FTC case are listed below with their status as shown on the public dockets on October 14, 2026. A complaint states a plaintiff's allegations; it is not a finding. The Membership Agreement contains an arbitration clause and class action waiver (Sections 19 and 20), and the company has invoked arbitration in at least two of the cases below. Older matters on the same search (securities, franchise and wage cases) are not summarized here.
- Giorgio et al. v. WW International, Inc. et al. (S.D.N.Y. No. 1:25-cv-02944-RA, filed April 9, 2025). The entries seen do not identify here which parties were dropped, so the number of current plaintiffs is not stated. No ruling on those motions appears on the docket as of the last entries seen (September 1, 2026).
- Stafford v. WW International, Inc. (W.D. Wash. No. 2:26-cv-01811-RAJ, removed May 27, 2026). A putative class action by a Washington resident alleging that marketing emails carried false or misleading subject lines advertising time-limited membership discounts, under Washington's Commercial Electronic Mail Act and Consumer Protection Act. On October 7, 2026 the court stayed the case pending the Ninth Circuit's resolution of 'Montes II'.
- Berger and Todd v. WW International, Inc. (C.D. Cal. No. 5:25-cv-00926, filed April 16, 2025). A putative class action under California's False Advertising Law alleging that the company advertised 'limited time' membership discounts that were ongoing. The court stayed the case on May 16, 2025 because of the bankruptcy. Plaintiff Berger was dismissed by notice on October 22, 2025; plaintiff Todd filed a notice of voluntary dismissal without prejudice on December 11, 2025, and the court denied the company's motion to dismiss as moot on December 12, 2025.
- Morrell v. WW International, Inc. (S.D.N.Y. No. 1:20-cv-09912, filed November 24, 2020). A putative class action alleging violations of California's Automatic Renewal Law in the company's subscription plans. On July 27, 2021 the court granted in part and denied in part the company's motion to dismiss. On August 5, 2021 the court stayed the case after the parties said they intended to seek mediation. On December 22, 2021 the court so-ordered a stipulation of voluntary dismissal with prejudice, each party to bear its own costs and fees and all parties waiving all rights of appeal; the stipulation does not state settlement terms.
- Quintanilla v. WW International, Inc. (S.D.N.Y. No. 1:20-cv-06261, filed August 10, 2020). A putative class action over the company's move of in-person Workshops to virtual Workshops during the COVID-19 pandemic. On May 24, 2021 the court dismissed the third amended complaint 'with prejudice as to Quintanilla's claim for damages and without prejudice, for lack of subject-matter jurisdiction, as to her claims for injunctive relief' and closed the case.
- United States v. Kurbo, Inc. and WW International, Inc. (N.D. Cal. No. 3:22-cv-00946-TSH): the FTC/DOJ children's privacy matter described in the regulator-actions section; order entered March 3, 2022.
Is WeightWatchers Legitimate?
WeightWatchers is operated by WW International, Inc., a Virginia corporation headquartered at 18 West 18th Street in New York whose common stock is listed on Nasdaq under WW and which files annual and quarterly reports with the SEC. BBB's page shows the business started in 1963 and lists a C- rating, not accredited, with 1,902 complaints in three years; Trustpilot shows 4.1 from 5,127 reviews, with the notices described in the complaint-record section above. The company emerged from a Chapter 11 case on June 24, 2025 and in March 2022 became subject to a $1.5 million civil penalty judgment under an FTC and Department of Justice order about the Kurbo app, in which it neither admitted nor denied the allegations.
This page states what the company's own pages and public records say; it does not rate the company. The Membership Agreement says fees for a started billing or commitment period are generally not refundable, that long-term plans renew unless cancelled, and that disputes go to individual arbitration. A person who is considering joining should read the checkout screen for the commitment length and renewal price, and a member with a current billing problem should use the routes in the first section and keep a record of the date and method of any cancellation.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I cancel WeightWatchers?
The company's cancellation page says members can cancel or switch their membership through a link on that page and can use 24/7 chat. The Membership Agreement (Last updated February 9, 2026), Section 3.B, allows cancellation in the protected areas of the site or app, through Customer Service (1-800-651-6000), or by other means the company provides, and says it will 'attempt to process all cancellation requests within 72 hours'. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the commitment period or of the membership month, depending on the plan; Section 4.A says a member who terminates 'must pay the applicable monthly subscription fee until the end of the billing period (for standard monthly plans) or the end of the commitment plan period (for long term commitment plans)'.
Does WeightWatchers give refunds?
Section 4.A of the Membership Agreement says the subscription fee is 'not refundable or cancellable once a billing period ... or commitment period ... has started', with three exceptions: cancellation for a medical reason, relocation or Workshop closure (unused portion refunded), termination by the company other than for violation (pro rata), and cancellation within 3 days or such other period as the law requires (full amounts required by law). For the Weight Watchers Clinic, the initial consultation fee is stated to be non-refundable under the separate WW Clinic Membership Agreement, whose Section 4 carries the same pay-until-the-end-of-the-period wording as the Membership Agreement.
Does WeightWatchers auto-renew, and what is the 12-month plan?
The U.S. plans page (opened October 14, 2026) says that for the $10/month Core offer a customer pays $10/month for the first 12 months of a 12-month membership and that the 'Plan auto-renews for another 12-month period at the regular price at the end of each plan term unless canceled'. The Membership Agreement words renewal differently: for a long term commitment plan billed monthly the membership 'will automatically be renewed at our standard membership rates and for our standard period (usually monthly) at the start of the renewal period', and 'for long-term commitment plans that renew for the same long-term commitment periods' charging continues each month of that period 'unless you terminate or cancel your membership before the relevant renewal commitment period begins'. The two company pages are presented side by side; the checkout screen shows the terms that apply to a given purchase.
What can I do if WeightWatchers charged me after I cancelled?
Section 3.B of the Membership Agreement says that if a member cancels near the end of a billing period and is 'inadvertently charged for the next period's fee', the member should contact Customer Service to have the charge reversed, and that the member will not be entitled to a refund if the service is used in that next period. The CFPB says a card holder should call the card company right away and must send a written billing error notice within 60 calendar days after the charge appeared on the statement.
Who owns WeightWatchers and did it go bankrupt?
WeightWatchers is operated by WW International, Inc., a Virginia corporation headquartered in New York whose common stock trades on Nasdaq as WW. According to its Form 10-Q, WW International, Inc. and several subsidiaries filed voluntary Chapter 11 petitions in the District of Delaware on May 6, 2025 and emerged under a prepackaged plan on June 24, 2025.
What did the FTC order against WeightWatchers cover?
The March 2022 FTC and Department of Justice order concerned the Kurbo by WW app for children and teens. The FTC alleged that the companies collected personal information from children under 13 without parental permission; the order requires deletion of that information, destruction of algorithms derived from it, and a $1.5 million civil penalty. The order states that the defendants neither admit nor deny the allegations, and it does not address adult subscription or cancellation terms.
Is WeightWatchers being sued?
As of the dockets checked on October 14, 2026, a putative privacy class action (Giorgio, S.D.N.Y.) was pending with motions to dismiss and to compel arbitration filed, and a putative class action over time-limited discount emails (Stafford, W.D. Wash.) was stayed pending a Ninth Circuit appeal. A California false-advertising class action (Berger and Todd) was voluntarily dismissed without prejudice in December 2025. Complaints are allegations, not findings.
Can I get a refund on Weight Watchers Clinic (GLP-1 medication) fees?
The WW Clinic Membership Agreement (Last updated February 9, 2026) says the initial consultation fee is not refundable, that payment does not guarantee medication availability, and that members 'will not be refunded any fees, even if prescribed medications are unavailable, except as otherwise permitted in this Agreement'. Cancellation can be requested through the app or site, by emailing [email protected], through the Care Team or through Customer Service.
