Sonic Drive-In complaints, refunds and contact: what Sonic's own pages say (checked October 14, 2026)
Most Sonic problems start at one drive-in: a wrong or missing item, a long wait, a charge you dispute or a service issue. Sonic's FAQ says that 'ninety-five percent of SONIC's more than 3,600 drive-ins are owned by local business men and women' (the same page also says 'There are more than 3,500 SONIC restaurants in 46 states'), so the drive-in that served you is usually run by an independent franchisee, not by the company.
At the drive-in. For an order placed through the app, Sonic's FAQ says: 'What if I am not satisfied with my order? Please push the red button and ask to speak with a manager who can assist with correcting your order.'
Customer Satisfaction Team. Sonic's FAQ says: 'If you have a restaurant-specific issue or question, call our Customer Satisfaction Team at (866) 657-6642 or email us your question at' a link to sonicdrivein.com/contact. That link opens the same FAQ & Contact Us page, which publishes no email address; its 'Contact Us' block says 'Have a question or suggestion about your experience at a SONIC restaurant or online order? Submit feedback below' and offers a 'Reach Out' form on Inspire Brands' service portal. The FAQ also lists '1-866-OK-SONIC or 1-866-657-6642' for promo codes that do not work and says 'Please call (866) OK-SONIC for help with your MySonic Account.'
Corporate office. 'SONIC, the Inspire Brands Oklahoma City Support Center, is located at: 300 Johnny Bench Drive, Oklahoma City, OK 73104, (405) 225-5000. Our hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Central Time.'
Cancelling an app order. The FAQ says an Order Ahead order can be cancelled 'up until 5 minutes before your selected pick up time' (App: red bag button, View Order, Cancel Order), and that for an order set to NOW, 'Once we send the order to the kitchen, the food has been made. You can no longer cancel the order or receive a refund.' Sonic's Terms of Use (last updated July 2026) say: 'Orders placed for pick-up ASAP may not be cancelled.'
Refunds and charges. The FAQ does not state a general refund policy. The Terms of Use say: 'the transaction for the purchase of Products or Services is final and complete at the time you are charged', 'Please allow at least two weeks for any refund to be processed' and 'Unclaimed orders due to customer error (including orders sent to the wrong SONIC location) are nonrefundable.' Contacting your card issuer about a disputed charge is general guidance and is not something Sonic's pages say.
Rewards. The FAQ says points are valid for 1 year, reward coupons for 60 days after conversion, and that 'only orders placed after the launch of the new SONIC Rewards on April 6, 2026 will earn points'. It also says 'Sonic Rewards customers can only earn points through purchases made through the Sonic app or Sonicdrivein.com' and 'if you change your mind and don't want to use your points, you can request a refund. The points will be credited back to your account within up to 6 hours.' Account deletion is permanent: 'Your loyalty points, rewards, and order history cannot be recovered.'
Gift cards. The FAQ says: 'If you lose your card, call us at (866) 657-6642. Please have your 16-digit card number and proof of purchase available when calling' and 'Your SONIC card never expires or decreases in value.' The Terms of Use say 'My SONIC cards are issued by SONIC Value Card LLC. Except as required by applicable law, the card issuer does not permit refunds.'
Disputes. The Terms of Use say: 'BY USING THE SONIC ONLINE SERVICES, YOU AGREE THAT ARBITRATION SHALL BE THE EXCLUSIVE MEANS OF RESOLVING ANY DISPUTE NOT RESOLVED THROUGH INFORMAL NEGOTIATIONS', conducted through the American Arbitration Association, 'HELD IN OKLAHOMA CITY, OKLAHOMA', 'IN YOUR INDIVIDUAL CAPACITY, AND NOT AS A PLAINTIFF OR A CLASS MEMBER'. Read the current Terms for the full text and any exceptions.
Who operates Sonic Drive-In
Sonic describes itself as a drive-in chain whose history 'can be traced back to 1953 and a small root beer stand called Top Hat in Shawnee, Oklahoma', with the name SONIC adopted in 1959. Its FAQ says 'Sonic is part of the Inspire Brands family of restaurants and is not a publicly traded company.'
Acquisition. A Form 8-K filed by Sonic Corp. on December 7, 2018 states that on that date 'SSK Merger Sub, Inc. ... a wholly owned subsidiary of Inspire Brands, Inc.' merged with and into Sonic Corp., with Sonic Corp. 'continuing as the surviving corporation', and that 'the Company became a wholly owned subsidiary of Parent'. Each share was converted into the right to receive $43.50 in cash.
Franchising. The FAQ says ninety-five percent of Sonic's more than 3,600 drive-ins are owned by local owners (and elsewhere on the same page 'more than 3,500 SONIC restaurants in 46 states'), and that hours are set by franchisees (minimum hours of operation 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.). Prices also vary: 'Prices of menu items vary by drive-in location.'

According to its December 2018 Form 8-K, Sonic Corp. is a Delaware corporation with its business address at 300 Johnny Bench Drive, Oklahoma City, and became a wholly owned subsidiary of Inspire Brands, Inc. on December 7, 2018.
