Network Solutions

Network Solutions, LLC is a Delaware company with a Jacksonville, Florida headquarters address that operates the Network Solutions domain registrar (listed by IANA as ICANN-accredited, ID 2) and sells web hosting, email, SSL certificates and website tools; Newfold Digital, formed in 2021 through the combination of Endurance Web Presence and Web.com Group and announced by Clearlake Capital Group in partnership with Siris Capital Group, lists Network Solutions among its brands. Its own terms provide for automatic renewal, describe fees as non-refundable except as stated, and direct cancellations to phone or chat. The FTC issued a consent order in 2015 over a hosting money-back guarantee, and a $1.5 million TCPA class settlement involving Register.com (merged into Network Solutions in July 2025) received final approval in August 2026. This page reports the company's terms, regulator and court records, and complaint sources separately, including 50 USAComplaints posts dated 2002 to 2013.

Charged for a renewal, locked out of a domain, or trying to cancel? What to check

Network Solutions, LLC sells domain registration, web hosting, email, SSL certificates and website tools under one account. The company's own documents do not all say the same thing about renewals, refunds and domain fees, so each one is quoted below with its date and address.

1. Check what renews, and when. The company's auto-renew help article says the Renewal Center shows each product's renewal date and "No renewal date will show if the auto-renewal of the product is off," and that auto-renew is changed under "Auto Renew Status." The Master Services Agreement (last updated January 22, 2026) says: "we will attempt to renew your service at some point less than ninety (90) days prior to its expiration," that "We may, at any time, activate the auto-renew service for eligible Services in your account if it is not already activated," and that to turn it off "you must call our Customer Service, or you may be able to turn off such auto-renew service utilizing the online Account Manager." The separate Domain Name Registration Services terms (updated August 18, 2025) say a domain renews automatically at then-current retail rates if the registrant "has not opted out of such renewal at least sixty (60) days prior to the expiration of the Domain Name." The 90-day and 60-day figures appear in different documents; this page does not reconcile them.

2. Cancelling. The help article "How to cancel Network Solutions services" says: "To cancel your Network Solutions services, please contact our support team by phone or chat." For the US and Canada it gives "800-362-0553" or chat; outside the US and Canada it points to 24/7 chat. The Contact Us page lists 1-800-361-5712. The Master Services Agreement says a termination request "may be recorded" and that services end "as of the end of the applicable, current billing period." The same section says that, "Unless otherwise specified in writing by Provider, you will not receive any refund for payments already made by you as of the date of termination, regardless of whether any related Services have been performed," that you may be "obligated to pay us for the balance of your term" for a monthly or annual subscription paid over time, and that cancelling before the end of a term "may result in our application of an early termination fee." For services sold together as a bundled package, it says that terminating any one of them "will terminate all Provider Services included in such solution or bundled package," and that a domain name in such a bundle "may be cancelled and may thereafter be available for registration by another party." Note the date, agent name or chat transcript of any cancellation request.

3. Refunds. The help article "Refund policy at Network Solutions" says: "we maintain a general no-refund policy," with case-by-case review; "If you contact us within three days of acquiring a new product, we may consider a refund"; and "If you reach out to us within 30 days of an automatic renewal order being processed, we may process a refund. In such cases, the renewal term will be rolled back to the previous status." It lists SSL certificates (once issued) and premium domains as non-refundable. The cancellation article states: "No refunds for auto-renewals after 30 calendar days from the renewal date on yearly terms" and "No refunds for auto-renewals for products on four-week/monthly terms." The Master Services Agreement says prices and fees "are non-refundable, except as otherwise expressly provided in this Agreement, as required by applicable law," and also provides that in the event of a chargeback "all of your Services may be suspended, canceled or terminated." For orders placed by telephone, the agreement says a customer who does not agree to be bound by it at that time must notify the company "within seventy-two (72) hours from the time that Provider has sent you a welcome e-mail" that they want to cancel, in which case "a refund of any payments or fees already paid to Provider with respect to the order of the Services will be issued."

4. Expired domain. The company's two documents give different redemption fees. The Domain Name Registration Services terms say the "current redemption fee is Three Hundred and Fifty Dollars ($350.00) plus the related renewal fee" and a reinstatement fee of $35.99, subject to change "at any time." The help article "What are the renewal timelines?" says: "Redemption fee: $99.00" and "Reinstatement fee: $35.99," and adds that some extensions may carry additional registry fees. The help article on expired domains describes the grace period as "typically 1-45 days" while the renewal-timelines article says a customer "may be given up to a 30-day grace period," so the last day to renew at the standard price is not fixed in these pages. The expired-domain article also says "As early as 30 days after expiration, your domain may be purchased by a third party," and that in the redemption period "you must contact Customer Support to initiate the recovery process." Ask support for the exact fee in writing before paying.

5. Transferring a domain away. The help article "How to transfer out your domain from Network Solutions" says "Only the Primary Contact of an account can make certain changes, such as turning off the transfer lock or requesting an authorization code," and that the authorization code "is sent to the Registrant's email listed on the domain." The company's authorization-code FAQ says: "Most registrars, including Network Solutions, email the code to the Registrant’s email on file within 24 hours of your request." For the extensions .ac, .am, .at, .be, .ca, .ch, .cz, .de, .es, .eu, .fm, .in, .io, .jp, .li, .lo, .mx, .nl, .nz, .nu, .pl, .ru, .sg, .sh and .tk (as the article lists them), it says that "due to registry requirements" the Primary Contact of the account must "call our customer support to proceed with a transfer between registrars." Its steps are Domains, then the domain's Security tab, then toggle off Domain Lock and click Request Auth Code. It lists common causes of delay: a domain registered less than 60 days earlier; a 30-day lock the company applies when certain contact changes are made within 7 days of a password reset; and a 60-day ICANN Change of Registrant lock after a name or email change. It also says that "If the form of authorization is not responded to, the transfer will automatically proceed after a five-day waiting period." The company's separate transfer FAQ (written for transfers into Network Solutions) says: "If you request for your domain to be unlocked and your registrar fails to provide you with a reasonable method to unlock it within five days, please submit a Transfer Complaint to ICANN."

6. If the company does not resolve it. ICANN's complaint page says its Contractual Compliance authority "is limited to the obligations set forth in these agreements" and offers forms by issue, including domain transfers. The FTC accepts complaints at ReportFraud.ftc.gov, and the BBB profile accepts complaints and reviews. Before filing suit, read the governing-law terms: the Master Services Agreement selects Florida law, courts in Duval County, Florida, a jury-trial waiver and a class-action waiver, and the company's Terms of Use (last updated January 21, 2025) contain a class-action waiver section.

FTC consent orders and what regulators' records show

FTC consent order, 2015 (Docket No. C-4527). On April 7, 2015 the FTC announced a proposed settlement with Network Solutions, LLC. The FTC's administrative complaint alleged the company "offered web hosting packages with a '30 Day Money Back Guarantee,' but did not adequately disclose that it withheld part of the refund – up to 30 percent – from customers who cancelled within 30 days of buying an annual or multi-year package and registering an included domain name." After a public comment period the FTC announced on June 26, 2015 that it had approved the final consent order by a 5-0 vote. The order prohibits the company from failing to disclose clearly, before obtaining billing information, the material terms of a money-back guarantee, and from failing to refund the full purchase price when a request complies with the guarantee; it also bars misrepresenting material terms of refund or cancellation policies and requires record-keeping for five years. The order document states that the respondent "neither admits nor denies any of the allegations in the draft complaint, except as specifically stated in the Consent Agreement," and admits only the facts needed for jurisdiction. It states that it "will terminate on May 28, 2035" unless extended, and the document is stamped "ISSUED: May 28, 2015." The FTC releases do not describe a monetary payment.

FTC settlement, 2003. A separate 2003 FTC matter, entered in federal court, concerned renewal-style solicitations mailed by Network Solutions, Inc. It is described under court cases below. The FTC stated that at the time of those mailings the company "was doing business under the name 'VeriSign.'"

ICANN and state regulators. ICANN's public "Notices of Breach, Suspension, Termination and Non-Renewal" page, checked on 2026-09-30, lists notices by year; none of the entries displayed there names Network Solutions, Register.com or Newfold. No state attorney-general or state-regulator action naming Network Solutions was identified in the web searches run on 2026-09-30; individual state enforcement databases were not searched one by one.

Company background: who operates Network Solutions

Legal entity and address. The Master Services Agreement (last updated January 22, 2026) is issued by "Network Solutions, LLC, a Delaware corporation"; the FTC's 2015 order describes it as "a Delaware limited liability company." BBB and Trustpilot list the headquarters address as 5335 Gate Pkwy, Jacksonville, FL 32256. The company's website says it is "a U.S. based technology company with more than four decades of experience," says "Since 1979, Network Solutions has grown alongside the internet," and describes itself as "the world's first private domain registrar" (all company claims). It says it is "Trusted by 2M+ customers to manage over 5.4M domains worldwide." The IANA registrar list, checked 2026-09-30, shows "Network Solutions, LLC" as registrar ID 2 (Accredited), together with "Register.com - Network Solutions, LLC" (ID 9) and "Domain.com - Network Solutions, LLC" (ID 886). The Domain Name Registration Services terms add that Network Solutions may act "as reseller for the sponsoring registrar identified in the RDDS record."

Ownership. A Newfold Digital release dated February 10, 2021 says Clearlake Capital Group completed its acquisition of Endurance International Group and, "In partnership with Siris Capital Group, LLC," announced "the formation of Newfold Digital through the combination of Endurance Web Presence and Web.com Group, Inc." It describes Web.com Group as providing domain registration and website building "primarily through its Network Solutions, Register.com, Web.com and CrazyDomains brands." Newfold's September 24, 2026 release (datelined Jacksonville, Fla.) lists Network Solutions among its brands and announces Sachin Puri as chief executive effective October 1, 2026, with Sharon Rowlands becoming executive chair; it quotes Clearlake and Siris representatives "on behalf of Newfold Digital's Board of Directors." Network Solutions' About page lists Mr. Puri as chief executive of Bluehost Group, Network Solutions Group and Newfold Digital. The Terms of Use state that the site is operated by "Newfold Digital, Inc. and its affiliate companies." The intermediate ownership chain between Newfold Digital and Network Solutions, LLC was not verified in a primary filing.

Register.com, Web.com and Builder brands. A Newfold release dated June 18, 2025 (datelined Jacksonville, Fla.) says "the Web.com brand is being fully integrated into the Network Solutions brand." A federal court order in the Lewis case states that "On July 25, 2025, Register.com, Inc., merged with Network Solutions, LLC and Network Solutions, LLC, is the only surviving entity." A Network Solutions help article says the CTCT Builder, SiteBuilder, Sitelio, Sitey and WebsiteBuilder brands "are becoming Network Solutions" (the page shows no date), with pricing and renewal dates staying the same.

Microsoft 365 notice. A help article (no date shown on the page) says that because of changes to Microsoft's reseller program, "a small number of Microsoft 365 tenants cannot be transferred" to the new reseller arrangement, that services for those tenants are "at risk of disruption after August 29, 2026," and that the most common reason is that the tenant is registered outside the United States. It tells affected customers to back up data and move their licenses to Microsoft, another partner or another platform, and says billing for an affected subscription ends with the service. The August 29, 2026 date has passed, and the page does not say what happened to any tenant afterward.

Other service changes. Two further help articles (neither shows a date) describe changes to existing customers. The Site Builder Tool migration FAQ says sites are being moved to an AI-powered Website Builder, that "You cannot opt out of this migration," that "There will be no changes to your pricing or billing as part of this migration," that the version to be migrated had to be published by July 15, 2026, and that "Saved drafts, unpublished changes, alternate versions, and backups in your current builder will not be migrated." The Cloud Mail upgrade FAQ says all email users will receive an automatic platform upgrade that transfers mailboxes, aliases, folders, calendars and contacts, that DNS records change when the upgrade begins, and that the company "will no longer support CRAM-MD5 Authentication."

Security incident, 2019. Krebs on Security reported in October 2019 that Web.com, Network Solutions and Register.com were asking customers to reset passwords after an intrusion. It quotes a Web.com statement: "On October 16, 2019, Web.com determined that a third-party gained unauthorized access to a limited number of its computer systems in late August 2019, and as a result, account information may have been accessed," listing "contact details such as name, address, phone numbers, email address and information about the services that we offer to a given account holder," and saying "No credit card data was compromised." The company said it encrypts account passwords and did not believe they were accessed. No lawsuit over this incident was found in the CourtListener name searches run on 2026-09-30. No newer breach notice naming Network Solutions was identified in the web searches run that day.

Product news. Help Net Security reported on September 23, 2026 that Network Solutions launched a Dark Web Monitoring service for small businesses.

Lawsuits and settlements naming Network Solutions

The court records below were read from CourtListener dockets and settlement documents on 2026-09-30. A docket listing shows procedural steps, not who was right.

Lewis v. Newfold Digital, Inc. and Register.com, Inc. (S.D. Ind. No. 1:25-cv-00275-JPH-MJD). Filed February 11, 2025. The plaintiff alleged that Register.com placed artificial or prerecorded calls without consent to cellphone numbers that had been reassigned, under the Telephone Consumer Protection Act; the court's order records that she "is not a Register customer" and that the calls "were meant for one of Register's customers who previously used Ms. Lewis's telephone number." The settlement creates a $1,500,000 non-reversionary fund for calls placed between February 12, 2021 and November 24, 2025 to reassigned numbers; the parties identified 453 affected telephone numbers. The court granted preliminary approval on April 1, 2026 and, after a July 7, 2026 fairness hearing, granted final approval in an order signed August 24, 2026, noting that 21 class members had filed claims and none opted out or objected. The claim, opt-out and objection deadline was June 15, 2026 and has passed. The order requires the parties to file a status update within six months on whether a final judgment dismissing the action with prejudice should enter. The final approval order states that it and the settlement documents "shall not be construed as an admission by Defendant of any liability or wrongdoing in this or in any other proceeding." The official settlement website is registertcpasettlement.com (Kroll Settlement Administration LLC, (833) 447-7880).

McElroy v. Network Solutions, LLC (C.D. Cal. No. 2:08-cv-01247). The docket shows a complaint filed February 25, 2008 against Network Solutions, LLC and ICANN. The court granted final approval of a class settlement on October 20, 2009 (Judge Gutierrez) and entered judgment on October 28, 2009, approving attorneys' fees and costs of $171,994. The docket text does not state the claims. Domain Name Wire reported on April 29, 2009 that the case concerned the practice of reserving domain names that consumers searched for, with settlement benefits of a $6 coupon (registered in the same session) or $9.91 cash (returned and registered within four days).

FTC v. Network Solutions, Inc. (D.D.C., 2003). See the court cases list. This was entered against Network Solutions, Inc. in 2003 when, per the FTC, the company was operating under the VeriSign name; this page does not trace how that order's obligations relate to today's Network Solutions, LLC.

Meta Platforms, Inc. v. New Ventures Services, Corp. (M.D. Pa. No. 3:21-cv-00697). This is a trademark case between Meta and a company that Domain Incite describes as a subsidiary of Newfold Digital (then known as Web.com); CourtListener's party list for the docket shows Does 1-10, Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and New Ventures Services, and does not list Network Solutions. The docket shows the case filed April 15, 2021 and a date terminated of April 29, 2026, with the latest entries (July 23-24, 2026) a motion for extension of time and the order on it; the entries do not state the terms of any resolution. Domain Incite reported on September 3, 2026 that Newfold said it had settled the lawsuit with an undisclosed payment, that all domains at issue would be transferred to Meta, and that Meta would receive "trusted notifier" status at Newfold; it reported that Meta had claimed at least 78 domains registered by New Ventures Services infringed its trademarks. The settlement terms are reported here from that news report, not from a court document or a Newfold document we opened, and the case is not one brought against Network Solutions, LLC.

Other individual and commercial suits naming Network Solutions appear on CourtListener; this page does not describe them because the docket entries reviewed do not state the claims.

Is Network Solutions Legitimate?

Facts on the record as of 2026-09-30: Network Solutions, LLC is listed by IANA as an accredited registrar (ID 2) and is the contracting party named in the Master Services Agreement and in the FTC's 2015 consent order. The company's own pages give its support and cancellation channels, and ICANN's public breach-notice page shows no entry naming Network Solutions, Register.com or Newfold. The FTC's 2015 order concerned an undisclosed cancellation fee on a hosting money-back guarantee, the company neither admitted nor denied the allegations, and the order runs until 2035 unless extended. BBB shows a D- rating and 188 complaints in three years while Trustpilot shows 4.3 from 16,656 reviews; these are different systems with different methods and are not combined here. All of the USAComplaints posts about the company are dated 2013 or earlier. This page gives Network Solutions no rating or label of its own.

The FTC alleged that solicitations mailed by Network Solutions, Inc. appeared to be expiration notices from consumers' current registrars and offered to "renew" domains without disclosing the current registrar or that accepting would transfer the registration. The stipulated order, entered by Judge Urbina on September 12, 2003, bars misrepresenting that a domain is about to expire or that a transfer is a renewal, requires clear expiration dates in communications, and requires consumer redress under a previously settled class action. The FTC states the order is "for settlement purposes only and does not constitute an admission by the defendant of a law violation." At the time of the mailings the company was doing business under the name VeriSign, per the FTC.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I cancel Network Solutions services?

The company's help article says: "To cancel your Network Solutions services, please contact our support team by phone or chat." From the US or Canada it gives 800-362-0553 or chat; from elsewhere, 24/7 chat. The Contact Us page lists 1-800-361-5712. The Master Services Agreement says services end "as of the end of the applicable, current billing period" and that the request "may be recorded"; the same section says there is no refund of payments already made unless Network Solutions specifies otherwise in writing, that an early termination fee may apply when a term is ended early, and that ending one part of a bundled package ends all services in the bundle. Keep the date and agent name or chat transcript, and check the Renewal Center to confirm auto-renew shows as off afterward.

Does Network Solutions renew domains and services automatically?

The company's documents provide for automatic renewal. The Master Services Agreement (Jan 22, 2026) says enrolled services are renewed "at some point less than ninety (90) days prior to its expiration" and that the company "may, at any time, activate the auto-renew service for eligible Services." The Domain Name Registration Services terms (Aug 18, 2025) say a domain renews unless the registrant opted out "at least sixty (60) days prior to the expiration." The help article says auto-renew can be enabled or disabled in the Renewal Center under "Auto Renew Status," and that an automatic renewal reminder email is sent when the system checks the payment and it is valid.

What is the Network Solutions refund policy?

The help-center refund article says: "we maintain a general no-refund policy," reviewed case by case. It says that within three days of acquiring a new product the company "may consider a refund," and within 30 days of an automatic renewal it "may process a refund" and roll the renewal term back. SSL certificates once issued and premium domains are listed as non-refundable. The cancellation article states no refunds for auto-renewals after 30 calendar days on yearly terms, and none for four-week or monthly terms. The Master Services Agreement separately describes fees as non-refundable except as stated, and gives customers who ordered by telephone without agreeing to its terms 72 hours from the welcome email to cancel for a refund of payments made on that order.

What does it cost to recover an expired domain?

The company's documents disagree. The Domain Name Registration Services terms (updated Aug 18, 2025) state a redemption fee of $350.00 plus the renewal fee, and a $35.99 reinstatement fee, subject to change. The help article "What are the renewal timelines?" lists a $99.00 redemption fee and a $35.99 reinstatement fee, plus possible extra registry fees for some extensions. Another help article says that as early as 30 days after expiration the domain may be bought by a third party. Get the exact fee from support in writing before paying.

Who can I complain to if a domain transfer is blocked?

ICANN's Contractual Compliance page takes complaints about registrars and lists a separate form for domain transfers, while stating its authority "is limited to the obligations set forth in these agreements." Network Solutions' own authorization-code FAQ says the code is emailed to the Registrant's email on file within 24 hours of a request, and its transfer FAQ says a registrant-information change triggers a 60-day lock and that if a registrar fails to provide a reasonable method to unlock a domain within five days, a customer should "submit a Transfer Complaint to ICANN." The FTC (ReportFraud.ftc.gov) and BBB also accept complaints, but neither resolves domain disputes by itself.

Which company group includes Network Solutions, and what happened to Register.com and Web.com?

Newfold Digital's press releases list Network Solutions among its brands. Its February 10, 2021 release says Clearlake Capital Group, in partnership with Siris Capital Group, announced the formation of Newfold Digital through the combination of Endurance Web Presence and Web.com Group, Inc.; its September 24, 2026 release quotes Clearlake and Siris representatives on behalf of Newfold's board. A federal court order states that Register.com, Inc. merged into Network Solutions, LLC on July 25, 2025, with Network Solutions, LLC the only surviving entity. The exact intermediate ownership chain was not verified in a primary filing.

Has the FTC taken action against Network Solutions?

The FTC has announced two settlements naming Network Solutions, under different ownership. In 2015 the FTC issued a consent order (Docket No. C-4527) over a "30 Day Money Back Guarantee" on web hosting that allegedly did not disclose a cancellation fee of up to 30 percent; the company neither admitted nor denied the allegations, and the order runs to May 28, 2035 unless extended. In 2003 a stipulated federal court order concerned renewal-style mailings sent by Network Solutions, Inc. while it was doing business as VeriSign, with the statement that it was not an admission of a law violation.

Has Network Solutions had a data breach?

In October 2019 Web.com, which Krebs on Security reported as the owner of Network Solutions and Register.com, told customers that an intruder gained unauthorized access to a limited number of its systems in late August 2019. The quoted statement said the exposed account information could include name, address, phone numbers, email address and service information, and that no credit card data was compromised; customers were required to reset passwords. No newer breach notice naming Network Solutions was identified in the web searches run on 2026-09-30.
