Giant Food complaints: where to take a problem and who else handles it

This page was checked on 2026-10-16. Giant Food's own website, giantfood.com, returned a 'Security Block in Place' page to our browser and to our other tools that day, so we could not read its Contact Us, coupon, return, recall, food-safety or privacy pages, and we give no customer-service phone number confirmed on the company's current pages (a 2018 company recall notice, described below, did publish one). The store-locator site stores.giantfood.com could be read; its menu lists Contact Us, Help, Coupon Policy, Food Safety and Product Recalls under 'Customer Support'. Use those pages on giantfood.com, or the store itself, for current contact details and policies, and keep receipts, order numbers and screenshots.

  • Which company. Giant Food (Washington DC, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia) is not the same business as The GIANT Company; Ahold Delhaize USA's notice page lists 'Giant Food' and 'The GIANT Company' as separate companies. Complaints about stores in other states may belong to a different banner.
  • Virginia Attorney General. The Office's page offers an online complaint form (described there as the preferred method) and a Consumer Protection Hotline, 1-800-552-9963 if calling from Virginia and (804) 786-2042 from the Richmond area or outside Virginia, open 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday (read 2026-10-16).
  • District of Columbia. The DC Office of the Attorney General's consumer protection page says to "contact our Consumer and Tenant Response team at 202-442-9828, [email protected], or submit a complaint at oag.dc.gov/complaint", and says the program handles complaints "when the consumer is a DC resident, when the business is located or headquartered in the District" (read 2026-10-16).
  • Maryland. The Maryland Attorney General's consumer complaint address (marylandattorneygeneral.gov/Pages/CPD/Complaint.aspx) redirected to oag.maryland.gov/i-need-to/Pages/business-complaints.aspx, which returned a 403 Forbidden response to our browser and tools on 2026-10-16, so we do not quote it; find the current route on the Maryland Attorney General's website.
  • Food-safety problems. The FDA page on reporting problems says concerns go to the appropriate FDA center through its SmartHub page, or by phone at 1-888-INFO-FDA (read 2026-10-16). Giant Food, LLC's May 22, 2018 recall announcement, posted on fda.gov, also says "Customers may also contact Giant Food's Customer Support Center at 1-888-469-4426"; that number is from a 2018 notice and was not confirmed on giantfood.com on 2026-10-16.
  • BBB. BBB accepts complaints through the profile of the store concerned; see the complaint-record section for what BBB shows.

Who operates Giant Food

Giant Food, LLC is the name of a defendant in the federal case Henderson v. Ahold Delhaize USA Services, LLC (M.D.N.C., No. 1:25-cv-00531), where the docket records a summons issued to 'Giant Food' and defendants' motions filed on behalf of 'GIANT FOOD, LLC' (read 2026-10-16). We did not find a BBB file for Giant Food, LLC itself; BBB's search for 'Giant Food' near Landover, Maryland on 2026-10-16 returned store-level files (for example 'Giant Food # 2305' in Parkville, MD) and files titled 'Giant Food Stores, LLC' that BBB shows under Carlisle, Pennsylvania, which we do not treat as this company.

The store-locator site stores.giantfood.com (read 2026-10-16) lists Washington DC (7), Delaware (6), Maryland (94) and Virginia (58) locations. Ahold Delhaize USA Services, LLC's notice page describes support services for 'Ahold Delhaize USA companies, including Food Lion, Giant Food, The GIANT Company, Hannaford, Stop & Shop, ADUSA Distribution, ADUSA Transportation and others', which places Giant Food in that group. We could not read Giant Food's own About page or any corporate-address page, so we give no current headquarters address. Two dated statements place the company in Landover, Maryland: Giant Food, LLC's May 22, 2018 recall announcement on fda.gov says "Headquartered in Landover, Md.", and the complaint in the Henderson case alleges that Giant Food "is an American regional supermarket chain headquartered in Landover, Maryland" and "is a subsidiary of Defendant Ahold" (an allegation).

Complaint record: BBB, Trustpilot and this site's archive

BBB (store file 'Giant Food # 2305', Parkville, MD; titled and addressed as one store; BBB's page text says "This profile includes complaints for Giant Food # 2305's headquarters and its corporate-owned locations"), as displayed on 2026-10-16: not BBB accredited; BBB Rating B-, with the reason 'Failure to respond to 1 complaint(s) filed against business'; '1 complaint in the last 3 years' and '0 complaints filed in the last 12 months'. The one complaint shown is dated 10/07/2024, type "Product Issues", status "Unanswered", and concerns the mobile app and account deletion. Other Giant Food store files exist and were not combined with this one; no single corporate BBB file for Giant Food, LLC was identified.

Trustpilot, as displayed on 2026-10-16: 2.1 from 153 reviews for giantfood.com; unclaimed profile; Trustpilot states it does not fact-check reviews. Some recent reviews displayed refer to stores in Pennsylvania, where the GIANT Company, a separate Ahold Delhaize USA company, operates, so the page may not be limited to Giant Food. These platform figures are shown separately and are not added to each other or to this site's count.

This site's archive. 5 approved complaints from 2003 to 2012 name Giant Food (also spelled 'Giant Foods' or 'Giant Food Stores') in Virginia or Maryland. They are individual, unverified accounts and all are more than ten years old: a former employee on layoffs and unpaid sent-home time (2003), a Virginia employee on a workplace injury and the employer's insurer (2007), 'Everyday Prices' differing between stores in Vienna/Oakton and Reston, Virginia (2008), a refused coupon and customer-service dispute at a Giant Food store (2008) and a customer's account of staff treatment at a store in Urbana, Maryland (2012). Archive posts about the Pennsylvania company Giant Food Stores and other similarly named businesses are not counted.

Court case and the 2024 data incident

Henderson v. Ahold Delhaize USA Services, LLC (M.D.N.C., No. 1:25-cv-00531). The CourtListener docket lists a class action complaint filed June 27, 2025 with Ahold Delhaize USA Services, LLC, Food Lion, LLC and Giant Food, LLC named among the defendants; the docket header shows "Cause: 28:1332 Diversity-Breach of Contract". The original complaint (Doc. 1) alleges that the class is made up of persons whose information "was impacted in a data breach that Defendant publicly disclosed in June 2025" and that "Plaintiff and Class Members are current and former employees of Defendants". It alleges that "On November 6, 2024, Defendant Ahold detected a cybersecurity issue", and it pleads five counts: negligence, negligence per se, breach of implied contract, breach of confidence and unjust enrichment. These are the plaintiff's allegations. The consolidated amended complaint (Doc. 39, March 4, 2026) is not free on CourtListener, so we did not read its counts.

The court's order of October 23, 2025 provides for related cases to be filed under this number, and an order of February 2, 2026 appointed interim co-lead class counsel. Notices of voluntary dismissal were filed on February 5 and February 11, 2026 (plaintiffs Joshua Henderson and Jon Ankus) and another notice of voluntary dismissal, in which the free docket entry does not name the party, on April 11, 2026 (Doc. 40). A motion to dismiss was filed May 4, 2026 (Doc. 42); the docket lists a response in opposition on June 3, 2026 and further filings on July 6 and July 9, 2026. The latest entry we saw, dated October 13, 2026, is an order on a motion for leave. The docket shows no ruling on the motion to dismiss and no settlement as of 2026-10-16. Allegations are not findings.

Data incident. Ahold Delhaize USA Services, LLC's notice page (adusaservices.com, read 2026-10-16) carries the heading "Notice of Data Breach June 26, 2025". It says it detected unauthorized access to some internal U.S. business systems on November 6, 2024, that an unauthorized third party obtained certain files from an internal file repository, and that it supports companies including Giant Food. It says: "Affected individuals include certain current and former employees, their dependents and beneficiaries and others whose personal information was identified in the relevant internal business files" and "We have no indication that customer payment or pharmacy systems were compromised in connection with the issue." For questions it lists 1-833-931-3792, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Eastern time, and asks callers to reference engagement number B146471. The page lists types of information that the affected files "may have" contained, which vary by individual: name, contact information, date of birth, government-issued identification numbers (for example Social Security, passport and driver's license numbers), financial account information, health information (for example workers' compensation information) and employment-related information. It says the company has "arranged to offer complimentary credit monitoring and identity protection services to affected individuals for two years". The page does not say how many Giant Food employees were affected.
