FreeShipping.com charge on your card: how to cancel, ask for a refund and complain

This page was checked on 2026-10-22 against FreeShipping.com's own pages (FAQ, Contact Us, Terms of Use effective January 23, 2025, Terms of Service effective June 22, 2026, Privacy Policy last updated February 25, 2025). Your own sign-up screens and card statements control your situation; the notes below summarise what the company publishes.

  • What the charge is. The company's FAQ says a FreeShipping.com charge 'means you are enrolled in an active FreeShipping.com membership', that the membership 'currently costs $19 per month', and that promotional offers 'may include a $2 trial fee for a 7-day period'. It says charges appear as FREESHIPPING.COM on a statement. Older statements and complaints in this site's archive use descriptors such as IC*FREESHIPPING.com and CMG*FreeShipping.com.
  • Cancel online. The FAQ lists these steps: sign in, open your Profile (click your username at the top right), select Cancel Membership in the sidebar, click Cancel My Membership; 'You will receive a cancellation confirmation email.' It says 'your membership will remain active with access to benefits through the end of your current billing period. You will not be charged again.'
  • Cancel by phone, email or form. The Terms of Use say to 'go to the “Help” tab, “Profile” tab, or send your request to us using the “Contact Us” link' on any page of the site, or to call 1-800-501-3310; the Contact Us page says the line is available 24/7. The FAQ says that if you cannot log in, Customer Service can locate the membership and process the cancellation.
  • Refunds. The Terms of Use say: 'If you cancel a monthly membership, you are eligible for a refund of your first monthly bill ... you won't be eligible for a prorated refund of any portion of the monthly membership fee paid thereafter', and 'If you cancel an annual membership, you are eligible for a prorated refund of any portion of the membership fee paid for the then-current membership period, unless you have simply requested that your membership not be renewed'. They add: 'If you believe you are owed a refund, please contact' [email protected] or call 1-800-501-3310. The FAQ says 'There are no long-term commitments or cancellation fees' and 'You will not be charged again after cancellation'; the FAQ pages we read do not address refunds.
  • Unrecognised charge. Check the sign-up trail first: the FAQ says members 'provided payment information and agreed to the membership terms' during enrollment, and lists the sign-up options credit/debit card, Apple Pay and PayPal. Ask Customer Service (form, email or phone above) to confirm whether a membership exists under your name and email. If you did not authorise a charge, your card issuer or bank has its own dispute process; ask it about time limits.
  • Rebates and cash back. The Terms of Service say shipping and food-delivery rebate claims must be made within 30 days of purchase (return shipping within 60 days; price protection within 90 days), with documents sent to [email protected], and that missing cash back must be reported within 30 days. The company's FAQ says payouts are 'sent to you monthly on the 15th by check or PayPal'.
  • Disputes. The Terms of Use contain an agreement to individual arbitration before the American Arbitration Association and a class-action waiver, with small-claims court allowed if the dispute qualifies, and Connecticut governing law. The Terms of Use also say that if the disclaimers are found unenforceable, aggregate liability 'SHALL NOT EXCEED TEN DOLLARS ($10)'. Read the clause in the version that applied when you joined.
  • Where else to complain. BBB accepts complaints through the Clarus Direct LLC profile; the FTC takes reports at reportfraud.ftc.gov or 1-877-FTC-HELP (1-877-382-4357); your state attorney general accepts complaints from residents of that state.

Keep the sign-up confirmation email, card statements showing the descriptor and amount, and a note of the date and name of every contact.

Is FreeShipping.com Legitimate?

Business facts at a glance. The site is owned by Clarus Direct, LLC (Terms of Use), which publishes a Rocky Hill, Connecticut address, a 24/7 customer-service line (1-800-501-3310) and role email addresses, and operates a paid membership at $19 per month according to its FAQ. BBB lists Clarus Direct LLC as accredited since 2024 with a B rating and 53 complaints in three years (as displayed on 2026-10-22); Trustpilot shows 3.5 from 6,222 reviews. The company's FAQ has a page on whether FreeShipping.com is legitimate, in which it calls itself 'a safe, legitimate membership program' and says it has paid members since 2002; those are company statements, not findings by us. Historic complaints in this site's archive and the 2013 class settlement concern how memberships were offered to shoppers at partner retailers in earlier years; read the current sign-up terms and your statements for your own case. We give no rating or score.

Complaint record: BBB, Trustpilot and this site's archive

BBB. As displayed on 2026-10-22, the BBB profile for Clarus Direct LLC, Rocky Hill, CT shows 'BBB Accredited' and a BBB rating of B; the complaints tab says '53 complaints in the last 3 years. 19 complaints in the last 12 months'. BBB's raw page data lists the file opened 2024-07-24, business started 2019-06-25, incorporated 2024-04-11 (a BBB field; Connecticut's registry gives 2024-04-11 as the date Clarus Direct, LLC, a Delaware LLC, registered in Connecticut) and accredited 2024-08-19. BBB says the nature of complaints and a company's responses are often more important than their number. BBB's customer reviews tab, opened 2026-10-23, shows a 1 out of 5 star average of 3 customer reviews; these are separate from BBB complaints and from Trustpilot and are not added to them. We did not read individual BBB complaints and make no statement about what they show.

Trustpilot. As displayed on 2026-10-22, Trustpilot shows 6,222 reviews and a score of 3.5 for FreeShipping.com (category Cashback Provider), with 1,174 reviews in the last 12 months and star shares of 5-star 64 percent, 4-star 10 percent, 3-star 5 percent, 2-star 3 percent and 1-star 18 percent. The profile is marked 'Claimed profile - Jun 2018' with a paid Trustpilot subscription; Trustpilot shows that the company invites customers to review, that it replied to 99 percent of negative reviews and typically replies within 48 hours, and states that it does not fact-check reviews.

CFPB. We did not search the CFPB complaint database for this company, so we show no CFPB figures.

This site's archive. usacomplaints.com links 250 published complaints to FreeShipping.com as the main subject: 3 from 2008, 18 from 2009, 9 from 2010, 64 from 2011, 118 from 2012, 37 from 2013 and 1 from 2025, plus 3 more that mention it alongside other companies. They were submitted by visitors, are unverified allegations, and almost all date from 2008-2013, so they do not describe the membership as sold today. Many describe charges on card or bank statements under descriptors such as IC*FREESHIPPING.com or CMG*FreeShipping.com; a dollar amount of $12.97 appears in 87 of the 250, and 26 mention ProFlowers. Counts under the theme headings are keyword matches in those posts, not findings. The BBB and Trustpilot figures above come from separate sources and are not added to these.

Court case: Cox v. Clarus Marketing Group (2013 settlement)

Cox, et al. v. Clarus Marketing Group, LLC and Provide-Commerce, Inc. (S.D. Cal.). Courthouse News Service (May 2, 2013) reports that the named plaintiffs filed two class actions in 2011 that were consolidated. They alleged that a pop-up 'free shipping' offer on ProFlowers.com led to a Clarus Marketing Group page where shoppers entered only an email address and zip code, and that neither defendant warned that accepting the offer authorized enrollment in FreeShipping.com membership programs costing $9 to $20 a month, charged using payment information the plaintiffs said was shared by Provide Commerce. The claims included federal racketeering law, the Electronic Funds Transfer Act and state consumer-protection law. According to that report, the parties mediated in May 2012, reached a proposed settlement in October 2012, and Judge Marilyn Huff certified the class and approved the settlement, noting that only 62 of more than 1 million class members opted out. It reports that Provide Commerce agreed to offer class members 20 percent off a future purchase or a $15 credit plus a portion of a $500,000 fund, attorneys' fees and costs of $640,000 and $5,000 incentive awards to each lead plaintiff. The plaintiffs' law firm Bursor & Fisher says final approval was granted on April 29, 2013 and that the settlement 'will reimburse Provide-Commerce customers who were enrolled in Freeshipping.com through data pass for their unauthorized membership charges up to $36.00'. The sources we read do not state the defendants' position on the allegations. Justia's party search (opened 2026-10-23) lists Cox et al v. Clarus Marketing Group, LLC et al, 3:11-cv-02711 (S.D. Cal.), filed November 18, 2011, and the earlier related Lynch v. Clarus Marketing Group, LLC et al, 3:11-cv-00913, filed April 29, 2011; we did not confirm on which docket the April 29, 2013 final approval was entered. Justia also lists other filings naming Clarus Marketing Group, LLC in 2011, including an insurance-coverage suit it brought against Philadelphia Indemnity Insurance Company (3:11-cv-02931); we did not open them and make no statement about their outcomes.

We ran two web searches on 2026-10-22 for FTC or state attorney general actions naming FreeShipping.com or Clarus and found none; we did not search agency databases directly, so this is not a statement that none exists.

The Terms of Use give Clarus Direct, LLC's address for non-electronic copies as 175 Capital Blvd., 4th Floor, Suite 402, Rocky Hill, CT 06067; the Privacy Policy gives PO Box 303, Rocky Hill, CT. BBB's profile for Clarus Direct LLC lists Rocky Hill, CT, the alternate names Shop Smarter, Travel Plus and LivePlayGo, and describes the business as providing 'shopping reward services to retailers'.

What it sells. The company's FAQ describes FreeShipping.com as 'a paid membership' with 10 percent cash back on eligible purchases at more than 1,000 stores, rebates on shipping, return shipping and food delivery (up to $10 per order and $500 per membership year for shipping and return shipping, up to $5 per order and $250 per year for food delivery), 90-day price protection (up to $100 per item and $1,000 per year), and a $1,000 annual cap on cash back, with monthly payouts by check or PayPal. These are the company's descriptions; the Terms of Service list the qualifying conditions (for example, purchases must follow a FreeShipping.com link, and Apple products and gift cards are excluded from cash back).

History as the company tells it. The About Us page says the company has been 'about saving money when you shop online ... since 2002'. This site's archive and the 2013 court coverage below show that, in 2008-2013, FreeShipping.com memberships were offered to shoppers at partner retailers such as ProFlowers; the court coverage names the defendant of that case as Clarus Marketing Group, LLC. The pages we read do not state how Clarus Marketing Group, LLC relates to the present operator Clarus Direct, LLC, and this page keeps the two names apart. Connecticut's business registry open data (data.ct.gov, searched 2026-10-23) lists Clarus Direct, LLC as a foreign (Delaware) LLC with status Active and registration date 2024-04-11; BBB shows the same date as 'Business Incorporated'. The sources checked on 2026-10-23 do not state how Clarus Marketing Group, LLC relates to Clarus Direct, LLC.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is FreeShipping.com?

FreeShipping.com is, in the company's words, 'a paid membership' offering 10 percent cash back on eligible purchases and rebates on shipping, return shipping and food delivery plus price protection at 1,000+ stores. It is owned by Clarus Direct, LLC, according to its Terms of Use.

What is the FreeShipping.com charge on my card statement?

The company's FAQ says a FreeShipping.com charge means an active membership, currently $19 per month, with promotional offers that may include a $2 seven-day trial, and that it appears as FREESHIPPING.COM. Older complaints in our archive show IC*FREESHIPPING.com or CMG*FreeShipping.com descriptors with amounts such as $12.97.

How do I cancel FreeShipping.com?

The FAQ says to sign in, open Profile, select Cancel Membership and click Cancel My Membership, after which a confirmation email is sent; membership stays active through the current billing period. You can also use the Contact Us form, email [email protected] or call 1-800-501-3310.

Can I get a refund from FreeShipping.com?

The Terms of Use say a member who cancels a monthly membership is eligible for a refund of the first monthly bill, with no prorated refund of later monthly fees; for an annual membership the Terms of Use say a member who cancels is eligible for a prorated refund of the fee paid for the then-current period, unless the member only asked that it not be renewed. They say to contact [email protected] or 1-800-501-3310 if you believe you are owed a refund. The FAQ states there are no cancellation fees and no further charges after cancellation, and the FAQ pages we read do not address refunds.

What if I did not sign up for FreeShipping.com?

Ask Customer Service to look up the membership by your name and email, and ask your card issuer or bank about its dispute process and deadlines. The company's FAQ says members agree to the billing terms at enrollment; many complaints in this site's archive, which are unverified allegations dating mostly from 2008-2013, say the writer did not knowingly enrol.

What deadlines apply to FreeShipping.com rebates and cash back?

Per the Terms of Service: shipping and food-delivery rebate claims within 30 days of purchase, return-shipping claims within 60 days, price-protection claims within 90 days, and missing cash back reported within 30 days. Annual caps include $1,000 for cash back and $500 for shipping rebates.

It concerned how FreeShipping.com memberships were offered to ProFlowers shoppers; settlement relief was offered by Provide Commerce. Justia's party search for Clarus Marketing (opened 2026-10-23) lists 2011 filings and none later; we did not search other dockets or party names, so this is not a statement that no other case exists.

Does FreeShipping.com require arbitration?

The Terms of Use state that disputes must be settled through individual binding arbitration with the American Arbitration Association, with a waiver of class actions and jury trial and an exception for small-claims court if the dispute qualifies. The terms are governed by Connecticut law.
