I wanted to purchase a Mercedes used and saw one on line.in May I went to CarMax before and had some negative experiences, however I really wanted this car. I had it shipped for Florida to Georgia for purchase. My financed advised me not to as he is a car broker and stated that CarMax had a reputation of not accepting responsibility for car repairs or warranties. I went ahead anyway as I really wanted this care and thought it was a deal... BAD MISTAKE!!! Within a week, the car would "shut off" while driving, shift gears while driving, or "rev up" while driving as well as multiple "malfunction lights" on the fifth day of owning the car. My fiance stated it was a possible transmission. We took the car back and CarMax sent it out for "sensor" repairs.
We got the car and it happended again in week two of the car. We took it back again and by this time, the 3 day window had expired. We were told again that they would "send it out to Mercedes" as it appears to need more sensor work. Still my fianced stated he thinks its the transmission as when we brought the car it only had 64k miles for a 2002 C240. Car Max repaired the car and we asked, is it ok to travel with and was assure that the car was find.
I was driving home from church in the cold two weeks ago with my kids and the car did it AGAIN! I was on the interstate and had to have exit to have it towed. Come to find out that it was the transmission. Now CarMax is making me pay the deductable of $250... Really? You are willing to lose customers over $250? The manager would not bend stating an additional 15k miles on the car but HELLO000000... I was informed by service dept that it "was not the transmission" and the "car was safe for travel". PLEASE DO NOT BUY A CAR FROM CAR MAX!!! I have purchased used cars from other vendors for my college kids years ago when they finished high school and have not had ANY issues with the engine, transmission, or anthing else. I called corporate and although the gentleman was pleasant... It was a lost cause... As it appears tha each CarMax chain manager has the FINAL WORD... Please do not buy a car from car max!!!
