On June 11 I called Auto Medics in Joliet, IL and asked them if they could fix an exhaust leak on my car. They said they could fix it and they gave me an appointment for Saturday June 16 at 8:00 A.M.
Saturday morning they looked at the car and said they didnt have all the parts they needed. They asked me to come back at noon on Saturday.
They worked on the car for a long time. They finally came to me and told me they couldnt get the exhaust pipe to connect to the exhaust manifold. They said they would need to order a new gasket and bolts and I would need to bring the car back on Monday June 18th. The car sounded terrible. The guy at the desk told me this is why I dont like to do this kind of a repair on Saturday, because the parts stores are closed. This is the same person that told me he could do this repair on a Saturday.
My wife brought the car back Monday morning. They again worked on the car for a long period. They said they installed the new front gasket and bolts and we wouldnt have any more problems. They claimed it was fixed and the car was quieter. We were charged $214.22 for the repair.
On the weekend of July 21st the car exhaust was very loud again. The noise was coming from the same area that had been
repaired. I took the car to a different shop. This new shop showed me the parts that had been replaced. The pipe and rear gasket were new. The gasket on the front of the pipe was not new, it was the original gasket. Auto Medics covered the front gasket area with red silicone and put it back together instead of doing it the correct way.
The heat of the exhaust caused the silicone to quickly fail, making the Auto Medics repair worthless.
I showed the parts to the business owner and requested a refund. He now says he never changed the front gasket. He refused to explain why the exhaust pipe was covered with red silicone. He said we should have brought the car back to him. He refused to give us a refund and told us to leave.
There is no way I was going to return after two trips there and they obviously have no clue how to repair an exhaust. Maybe the third trip back, they could have tried duct tape or bubble gum.
