I must say that as a long time Dicks customer I feel you and the board need to be aware of your manager’s confrontational demeanor and disregard for customer retention. I had a very unpleasant confrontation Sunday 11/20 around 2:30pm with your store manager Dave Verhan outside in the parking lot.
I hope that you read this in its entirety. I plan on writing the board of directors individually, Edward Stack CEO, William Columbo, Emanuel Chirico, Jacqualyn Fouse, Walter Rossi, Lawrence Schorr, Larry Stone, and Allen Weiss.
I was in the market to purchase one of the Benelli shotguns from your store this fall in the $1200 to $1300 range, and as a family, we spend a good deal at your stores annually, kids sports, and my expensive hunting and fishing hobbies.
As a result of the confrontation I had with your manager I will not enter a Dicks store again. I was in the store looking around and ended up leaving the store with my 9 year old daughter by my side, we were not carrying bags and were talking as we walked through the open double doors, one of the employees handing out flyers yelled you can’t go through that door. We were already through it and continued out into the parking lot walking towards the far side. As we were getting into the truck the store manager Dave who was following us, came walking at a fast pace in the direction of my truck which was parked at the far side of the lot. I got out at the front of my truck and said what’s up. His response in a load confrontational manner was "what’s that tough guy" I said your following me, again I asked "what’s up." He proceeded to berate me and embarrass me in front of my 9 year old daughter. I said, "real professional and explained that I was about to buy a Benelli shotgun from your store", he said "whatever, go somewhere else." I went home and called the Newington NH store and spoke with R. J in fishing in an attempt to get Daves last name to lodge my complaint. R. J would not give me Dave’s last name. I then called the Concord NH store and spoke to Wes a member of management there, Wes provided me with Dave’s last name and told me that they get a lot of Newington’s customers that also had a bad shopping experience there. I couldn’t imagine having one of my employees speaking to anyone the way your representative did today. Perhaps a member of your management should have more self control and be less confrontational when dealing with a member of the public. I will take Dave Verhans advice and will take my business elsewhere.
