Body And Paint Uh Oh Better Not Get Maaco'd ripoff

Looks like we have joined the ranks along with the 1,000's of people who have been screwed by Maaco Body and Pain.

MAACO offers a service called

"per your request"

Superior customized attention to detail, quality and durability in every respect—for late-model and classic car owners who want to duplicate that "factory look."

In September we drove my wife's just purchased 1979 VW Baby Blue convertible into the Maaco Body and Paint shop in San Bernardino, CA. Hey if it was good enough for Burt, it should be good enough for my wife's car right?!

My wife and I spend a couple of hours with their estimator Bob (Who no longer works there) and explained that we were completely restoring this car and wanted their best paint job. We even told Bob that if the car turned out the way I wanted it to that we would enter it in some Bug runs across the country.

We also provided him all new chrome and rubber molding to be put back on the car when it was completely painted.

We paid Maaco a total of $1,231.95 and were promised a "Show Room" paint job.

We asked Bob to have his guys take their time because we wanted it done right.

Bob promised that the car would be stripped down to the metal and all of the chrome and rubber would be removed and replaced.

During that time there was a change of ownership with the franchise and we were told by the new owner (Charles) that the car wasn't completed because we didn't pay enough for the work that we were promised.

I told Bob originally that Money wasn't an object and that we were more concerned with the results than we were with the cost or the time that it took them to finish it.

For the record we also spent $1,000.00 for the chrome and rubber kit for the car, $2,200.00 to have a brand new canvas top hand made and installed (One of Bob's associates did the job) $1,200.00 for front disc brakes, $1,250.00 for Porsche Fuch Rims and Tires, $700.00 to have the front end lowered and replaced with gas shocks and the list keeps growing.

Bob originally told us that he could have the car finished by Christmas. When it wasn't finished by Christmas we asked if he could have it done for Valentines Day (our Twentieth Wedding Anniversary to be spend renewing our vows in Las Vegas) When it wasn't done by Valentines Day I said "Please have it done for my wife's 40th Birthday at the end of April". Bob assured my wife and I that it would be completed by the end of April. When it wasn't finished I told him that it had better be done by Friday, April 30th because I will be there to pick it up. When I arrived Friday morning the car wasn't finished and it wouldn't start because the battery was dead from sitting so long. So within 30 min. AAA was there with a tow truck.

At this point we are still working with a guy named Ed (Hi Ed!) at Maaco Corporate office to try to get this issue resolved. Thanks to everyone who has Emailed us, we will keep you posted.
