I rented a 16' truck from Budget on Oct. 1. I picked up the truck at 10:30 in the morning and returned it at 10:00 that evening.
On the way to return the truck I stopped at the Valero station which is about 200 yards from the Budget yard. I proceeded to replace the gas that I had used. I was not able to get much gas in the tank, in fact, the pump kept shutting off like it does when the tank is full. I attempted to put a bit more gas in but it ended up running down the side of the truck. It only took $3.13 which seemed ok because we really didn't go that many miles. However, I am unsure of exactly how many miles we used.
My final charge for the truck usage was $95.21. The estimated rental charges were $47.84.
After realizing that I had been charged a lot more than the estimated charges I contacted customer service for an itemized statement of the extra charges. The customer service representative was helpful and she contacted the local Budget office that I rented from and discussed the situation with them.
When she came back on the phone I was told that as a courtesy they would refund the extra charges. The local Budget agent told the customer service representative that they had to put in $10.00 worth of gas. I believe this to be a totally untrue statement. I should never have been charged for additional fuel. I definitely intend to contact Budget Corporate to file a complaint against this location.
