Re: Formal complaint against Just Brakes, at 3510 N. Rancho Rd. Suite #150 Las Vegas, Nv. 89130 (702)-395-4219
To whom it my concern:

I Rebecca took my 95 Dodge Dakota truck to Just Brakes with concerns of a squeaking sound. I was told it would take a hour to do an internal inspection so I agreed. I went next door for lunch. About 40 min. Later Dan (not sure of his name) came over with the first estimate of $600.00. He said there was a censer on my truck and that was the squeaking sound, and that was to let me know my brakes were bad and that my back brakes were not working at all.

I needed to replace 2 caliber bolts among other things. I told him I wanted to get another estimates. He said I would be putting my self and my vehicle in danger if I drove it in that condition. So I agreed to the brakes and the bolts, believing he knew what he was talking about. They worked on my truck for hours, and about 2 hours into the job I began to get frustrated and stood at the door of the shop and watch them.

I heard one of them say awe man you stripped it! Then they were quiet. They started grinding on something, and searching the ground for something they seemed to have lost. One of them saying, it has to be here! As they were kicking plastic, empty boxes and trash around in search of something that they had taken off my truck. I stood there watching for over an hour then went back in to sit down and try to remain calm. I could tell things were not going well.

5 hours later they were done, providing me a list of things they had done and that needed to be done. The caliber's changed from 2 to 4, which you can see on the invoice. The threads I heard them strip, they now said was done by someone else. At this time I had a gut feeling I was being ripped off so I told them that everything they had taken off my truck I wanted.

I was told there would be a charge for those parts. I said, charge me! I just wanted to get out of there. They did not charge me, because now I know it was a scare tactic to keep me from taking proof what they were doing. He threw the first invoice in the trash, and I made him get it out and give it to me. I left feeling frustrated and worried about what had just taken place.

The next day the squeaking was still there as I was going to work. After work I was driving and the noise got louder and louder, and suddenly there was this loud bang. I thought I had a blow out and pulled over. The tires were fine, so I got back in and drove home slowly and scared. The next morning I called Just Brakes and told them what had happened. They told me to come right in.

A new employee Chris O'connor worked on it. They said the left brake caliber had come completely off and it was replaced. They replaced it and put lock tight on it to keep it in place. Once again I was sent on my way. As I left, the squeaking was still loud. I went home, opened the phone book, said a prayer and called Mr. Brake. The first thing I said was I need someone to be honest about my brakes. Bill the manager replied I will do my best! I made an appointment. I wasn't able to make to first appointment due to my work schedule, so I made another one on my next day off, and drove as little as possible.

I went to Mr. Brakes on 3-29-04 and was told they could not tell me anything until they did an internal inspection. I told them of the work Just Brakes had done, and that the parts that were taken off my truck were in the back. I went to lunch. I was called by Ryan and told I needed to return to the shop. They informed me that there were a lot of repairs that needed to be done. I was shown the damage believed to be caused by Just Brakes.

Now it could not be fixed, but must to be replaced. I was told the brakes removed from my truck had plenty of life on them, and should not have been replaced. The caliber slide/holes were stripped just as I had heard the mechanics say they did while watching from out side the shop. I was shown the Banjo bolt had been grind down to make it fit.

This must have been the grinding I heard them doing at Just Brakes. Before any work was done I went back to Just Brakes to see what they would do about the problem. They said I should call the corp. Office, that they had done nothing wrong. So I called the corp. Office and left a message. The next morning at 6am I received a call from Jim Ship at the corporate office.

I explained my situation and was told to take my truck to the Just Brakes on Spring Mountain Rd. I explained that the truck could be seen by one of the mechanics at the location at 3305 S. Jones, and that I was not going to let them do any more damage to it than they had. Mr. Ship said he would call the Spring Mountain location and send someone over. I waited for 2 hours, called the Spring Mountain Rd. Store and they knew nothing what I was talking about.

Mr. Ship called and said they would give me $40.00, half the cost of the caliber bolts. He stated that from looking at his records they had done nothing wrong. Again I asked that they send a representative from the Spring Mountain store to see the damage. He refused, and said there was nothing else they could do for me. I told him he would be hearing from me and hung up.

Before any work was done I took pictures, and even used my camcorder to provide proof of the damage. They are both poor in quality, but I did try every attempt to have proof of what was happening. I also have a letter from Mr. Brakes, the shop that did the repairs stating what they saw and believed to be true.

It has cost me $161.70 at Just Brakes for work that did not need to be done, and damage that they did, and $1122.91 to fix the damage they did. Not to mention stress, not having my truck for transportation to and from work, and feeling like a fool for letting these people take advantage of me. I am asking for anyone who can and will help me bring these people to justice. Someone has to stop these people from taking advantage of the consumer, and protect us from this kind of rip off. Please Help!

I must add that the guys at Mr. Brakes, 3305 S. Jones, Las Vegas Nv. (702)-873-7018 Ryan Frei and Bill Mckinnon were the most respectful and honest people I have dealt with in a long time. My thanks and gratitude to them for all they did.
Sincerely
Rebecca
