We bought a 1998 chevy cavalier on 7/1 for our daughter for college. Paid in full, contingent on passing PA state inspection (it had a NJ inspection sticker on it) The car "passed" inspection on 7/7, and we picked it up on 7/9. Halfway home the rear brakes started to lock. We called the dealer as soon as we got home. The salesman, Mike, asked us to drive it back! We refused, in that condition and we were able to get an appt. With our mechanic on 7/13. Turns out the steel brake line had snapped, and both were rusted and shot!
Alos, the tires are dry rotted, fuel line is shot, front brake pads are barely passable, but the rotors are shot! The frame has a hole in it, the exhaust needs a hanger, the gas gauge doesn't work, a brake light is out, and it doesn't even have working hazard lights! Now I ask anyone reading this, how on earth did this car pass inspection? The owner, Joe Melhem, twice asked my husband to drive the car back to Easton in that condition! Then he wanted to pick up the car to have his mechanic look at it! The same person who inspected this car and passed it!? The only thing he was willing to do was buy the parts (at dealer cost) and have us pay for the labor.
He said our mechanic gets "considerably more per hour" than his guy! Do you wonder why? When we refused and wanted him to pay all the repair cost, he said he was going to contact an attorney. That is the last we heard from him. Now we are paying for the repairs, because our daughter needs the car to get back and forth to college! All we want is for him to pay for everything needed to make this car pass a legal inspection, not a lick and stick! The worst part, other than the headaches and alot of money lost, both the salesman, Mike, and the owner, Joe, knew we were buying this for our 18 year old daughter! I doubt they would put one of their kids in this car! Shame on them!
