I purchased a Pontiac Grand Prix from what was at the time Ugly Duckling in Lithia Springs, GA, I believe in March. When I and my husband purchased this car we were assured that this was a great car that had been thoroughly inspected by one of their mechanics and was in great running condition.
However, we were told, which I find a little ironic now, that if we had any problems with car what so ever over the next 90 days to call them, and they would make any repairs at no charge to us. Well not even three weeks after we purchased our car, it broke down on the side of the road, at night, with my 2 small children in the car.
I had to walk to a store, where I called my husband, he contacted the dealership where the sales manager told him, sorry I can't help you tonight, we are walking out the door to go home right now, have the car towed and call me in the morning, and yes, I said SALES MANAGER! So, we had the car towed, called him back the next morning where he assured my husband a tow truck would be out to our house that day to pick up the car, and make any repairs necessary at no charge to us as long as we kept our payments current.
Also just to let you know we had the car looked at by a mechanic to find out what happened, and he said it was a blown head gasket, and that the head had been leaking for at least 6 months, it was rusted, so there was no way they could have inspected that car and not known there was something wrong with, oh and by the way, the repairs were going to cost around $3000.00. Well, after 3 months and probably 40 phone calls, (that we made, we were always told I will take care of this and call you back, NO ONE EVER called back) my non running car, is still in my drive with a blown head gasket. I also would like you to note that during this time, I paid my payments on the NON-RUNNING car every time they were due and on time.
Finally I contacted our attorney and he advised us to have the car voluntarily reposed, since we were financially and legally protected under our chapter 7 Bankruptcy. This is not something I wanted to do, but since the company would not honor their word or their product, I had no choice but to do so, I could no longer afford to pay for a car that was not running. I contacted the office, asked them to come get the car and gave them our case number, and our attorneys name and number.
However I have to say, this didn't get me any where either, because 3-4 months after I made the call requesting the car be picked up as a voluntary repossession, it was still sitting in my driveway! During this period I received countless calls from DriveTime demanding payment, (funny how they will call you when you quit paying them) where I would then explain the situation, I had several of their own employees read our file and tell me they thought we were being treated terribly, they apologized and said they would do there best to resolve the matter and that I shouldn't be contacted again, yeah right!
I could go on and on for pages telling you about interactions I have had with their staff and collection agencies, the end result with every one if them, is they tell me it will be taken care of, and I won't be bothered again, six months later, the demand letters and phone calls start up again. I am at the end of my rope and don't know what else to do to get this issue resolved, if anyone can help PLEASE tell me what to do. Oh and do not buy a car from drivetime!!! Tell all your friends and family!!!
