We'll Take Care of It

A service adviser took my list of vehicle problems down, and gave estimates as to what the work and costs would be. I wasn't going to have close to $3,000 work done all at once, and wanted a 2nd opinion on some things. I agreed to have an engine scope, and have a mechanic check over the vehicle.

The scope was quoted at around $90, but I thought Firestone being a National brand would keep their computers well calibrated, giving me a better picture of where I was at. The vehicle, used drove very good for the 1st year, since I bought it, and had no other problems beforehand. I figured on getting a scope and starting with the least expensive attempts to correct as much as I could..

I took the car in for the work, and soon after received a call, giving me notice that I needed an Idle Control Valve. I asked for the price, and gave a go ahead to replace it for $139. When I picked the vehicle up, I was not billed for the $97 & $139 only. I was also billed $40 for checking the car over, which was not done completely, since the next day another mechanic found several other problems related to the concerns I gave to Firestone, and other major problems Firestone did not inform me of. Adding charges beyond the work they did, I was not too happy seeing the total come to $320. After driving for an hour I returned and was told the the Idle Control would return to normal after a few days. The idle did not return to normal after a few days.
I returned to the store, only to hear the salesman who sold me the wrong work telling another employee, "Ya, if he brings it in he's going to be in for a surprise." and I spoke to his manager, who refused to repay the amounts for the work not done.
Good mechanics will start repairs by looking for the least expensive alternatives. This salesman verbally quoted each item I had with repairs costing hundreds of dollars each, when looking at less expensive choices were available. It seems as if these people are paid more to do more expensive repairs, even if less costly repairs can be made, and they recommend the costly repairs to unknowing customers.
I want my money back for work not done, and for work that was not included that I was told this repair would correct problems if done. I paid in good faith, and was given the shaft.
