CNR Auto and Tire Damage to Vehicle

A canadian tire employee suggested I go to C N R Auto for a tire repair. I can assure anyone reading this that I will be going to Canadian Tire and suggesting that they never again refer someone to C N R. One of the first items I mentioned at C N R was that my tire pressure monitoring system has been indicating that I have a leak. The representative of CNR auto that I dealt with removed my tire and found a nail. As he removed the rubber tire from the rim he ripped off the tire pressure sensor inside the tire (mounted to the rim). When he first found the damaged sensor he did not even know what it was despite his claim to many years in the tire business. He immediately claimed that he did not do it.

It is a new car. I would be very surprised if someone else has unmounted that tire. The tire pressure monitoring system was working properly prior to this event. As the tire was moved around just after taking the tire/rim assembly off of the vehicle there was no sound of the rather large plastic tire pressure sensor bouncing around inside the tire. I have also owned the car for some time and I have never noticed any noise. Before reassembling the tire there was an attempt to put the sensor back in but the plastic clips on the sensor were broken and the metal bracket on which the sensor clips was severely deformed. Rolling the tire back to the car revealed a loud sound as the tire sensor bounced around inside the tire.

At this point I indicated that I not paying for the repair and asked what would be done about the damage. I was told that not only were they not responsible but that I would also have to pay for the tire repair.

I am 100% sure the sensor was ripped off as the rubber tire was removed from the rim. The machinery used in this process requires a pry bar be inserted between the tire and the rim. This pry bar would not have to be inserted very far before it would hit the sensor. As the pry bar is automatically rotated around the tire to fully remove the tire from the rim I am sure that it hit the sensor and wrenched it from the bracket.
