At the end of October I handed my leased car into the dealership. Prior to this, I had gone online to One Beacon's website to cancel my automatic deduction for monthly payments. The website does not allow you to do so. That being the case, I sent a letter, an email, and a phone call notifying One Beacon and Deland Gibson (why there are two seperate locations I'm not sure) that my vehicle was no longer in my possession, and I was canceling my policy. I also clearly stated that they did not have my permission to deduct any further funds. At this point I received an email back saying that while I may have missed the window to stop the automatic deduction, they would make sure that I would be promptly refunded. I thought this was perfectly acceptable.
Weeks went by at this point. I had already handed in my plates shortly after that email to Deland Gibson in person. Finally I emailed for follow up on my refund (as I had heard nothing from the company). They then told me that Deland Gibson had made an error (who, keep in mind, is essentialy One Beacon); and my cancellation paperwork had been delayed. Again, I reiterated that they did not have permission to deduct any further funds.
More time passes, and another deduction appears in my bank account from One Beacon. At this point, I once again notified them, and then notified my bank and had them reverse the funds. I told One Beacon that in addition to the reiumbursment I would like a check for $50 for the bank fees to have two payments reversed. A few days later, a check arrived for $40-some odd dollars.
Now, One Beacon is billing me to be reimubursed for the cost of one month, and although it has been only two months, after filing a BBB complaint they sent my bill directly to a collections agency. The amount of the money isn't that bad, what bothers me is that I am paying for literally nothing - something that I had cancelled. Does anybody know additional rights that I have in this case? I am also pursuing the Attorney General's Office, as none of this seems right to me
