I recently booked a reservation for rental car online at hertz.com. The process was smooth but after paying, I noticed that I had put down the wrong day for pickup (I needed the car one day earlier). I tried to change the date online but got errors each time, telling me to call customer service. However, when I called, the phone rep told me that since I pre-paid, the only way to change a reservation was to cancel the entire booking and start from scratch on the website.
I thought this was a little strange, so I emailed support, thinking they might just be able to make the change for me. I got an email back stating the same thing: I must cancel my reservation and re-book online. I still couldn't understand why this was the case, so I tried calling the Hertz office where I was planning to pick up the rental. They confirmed what every other rep had told me.
I have not even gone on my trip yet; I am just trying to book a car.
